As many of you know, I am making an aggressive effort to improve this website and increase readership by the end of January, 2011 (Used to be February, but I reached some goals faster than I imagined!). Here are the goals I set for myself.

Goals for the end of February January, 2011

  • Alexa Rank: Under 200,000
  • Subscribers: 50
  • Twitter Followers: 200

Current Numbers

  • Current Alexa Rank: 155,441 (was 176,630 last week)
  • Subscribers: 42 (was 38 last week)
  • Twitter Followers: 158 (was 144 last week)

Well, you can tell that I reached my Alexa Rank goal without a problem. I will continue to network and grow in that category. I know that it will continue to go down below 100,000, so I fell like I don’t have to worry about it anymore.

I mentioned that I was really going to make a push to improve my subscriber and Twitter numbers last week. Well, life happened, and I didn’t start making an effort on this until about Thursday. Since I started so late, I am still pleased with the numbers.

My subscriber numbers went from 38 to 42. Still an improvement, so I’m still happy! My Twitter followers increased by 14 and I expect those to climb past the 200 mark in no-time!

Goals for February 28, 2011

My site income really struggled in December, and I think it is do to my poor SEO (Search Engine Optimization) set-up. My site is clean for optimal XML coding, but my keywords and titles have really been sub-par. Out of all my visitors, the ones that found my site by way of a search engine was less than 1%!! And most of that 1% was probably me trying to see if I could get my site to show up when I searched a particular phrase in Google!

In February, I have a few things that I would like to work on. One of them is to improve my SEO so that 4% of my audience comes to my site by way of search engines. With increased traffic, I should be able to improve my Google Adsense income. Since I made like, $0.95 in December, I don’t want to put a mammoth number here, but I think I should make at least $20 in February. I still think subscribers and Twitter followers are important as well, so I’ll set a goal number for these: 250 Twitter followers, and 60 subscribers.

Goals to hit by the end of February, 2011

  • 4% find my site by search engines
  • 250 Twitter followers
  • 60 subscribers
  • Make $20 via Adsense

AUTHOR Derek

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.

  1. Thanks for including our post on our starting a month of only eating food already in our apartment. Appreciate your including us amongst all these great sites! I’m really enjoying your work both here and at your staff writer gig!

    • I really can’t wait to see how that goes! What about milk? Are you just going to go without it for the last 2 or 3 weeks?

    • Thanks MoneyCone! It doesn’t always feel so speedy, but looking back, I feel pretty good about it. Plenty more success to come!

  2. You are doing a great job. Getting search traffic can be very difficult. You gotta really get those keywords set up for each of your posts, and also internally link your articles.

Here is a link that I think is great to help get your blog moving. It takes awhile to make all the changes, but I think it is well worth it:

    • Thanks Everyday Tips! Things have been moving along quite well, but I will make sure to check out that article as well. 🙂

    • It really should be. I think the toughest part will be the SEO improvement since it’s almost an art that needs to be learned. But, I’m learning! 🙂

    • Yeah, I agree. But it’s about time that I focus on those SE visitors, especially if I really want to grow. I will still make an effort to increase my direct numbers too. 🙂

  3. Have you thought about adding your site to stumbler? I’ve added my site to it and expect a relative increase in traffic.

    • I have added my site to stumble upon. Is that what you’re talking about? It has added a few extra visitors a day. Nothing much so far.

  4. I love looking through and I believe this website got some really useful stuff on it! .
