Goals Update and Weekly Round-Up #8

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I hope that each and every one of you has done something special for your certain someone. I am not doing so well in this category thus far because I still need to buy a gift! I have an idea of what I’m going to do to make this day special for my lady though.

Getting into the numbers, this week has been extremely busy, but I still managed to work on my Twitter account and write a few solid articles. This coming week is going to be tough too. I expect that our big move will inspire many articles though.

Goals to hit by the end of February, 2011

  • 4% find my site by search engines
  • 250 Twitter followers
  • 60 subscribers
  • Make $20 via Adsense

Current Stats

  • 8% find my site by search engines (same as last week)
  • 254 Twitter followers (I hit my goal already! – was 208 last week)
  • 44 subscribers (down 1 from last week, I know I need to work on this)
  • Have made $6.05 via Adsense so far in February

I realize that I have not made as much of an effort this week, but I was very surprised to see my subscriber number go down! This is a category that I know I need to work on, but just do not have time for at the moment. I will continue to write quality articles, which will hopefully attract some new people, but to have an incentive (such as an e-book or something) will really take some thought and time. I do plan on this for the future though.

My search engine traffic is still constant at 8%, but my overall traffic has gone down as well, which really means that there has been fewer visitors than the first week in February. I really need to work on this as well. There are plenty of articles that need some SEO work done to them still.

My Twitter followers are still steadily rising. I’ll hopefully get to the 300 mark next week!

The Adsense money is slowing somewhat. Since there are many people that are quickly dashing away from my site after their initial click, I am really trying to create a better look on my site. So, I have removed both of the Adsense sidebar ads and only kept the ad within the content. I still get steady clicks, so we’ll see what happens as we get though the month.

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.

  1. You may want to consider ditching some of the AdSense ads on your site and instead opt for some CPA advertisements. They’d probably net you more money, you’d have more control over them, and they’d look slightly better.

    • I’ve definitely thought about it (dumping the adsense ads that is), and will certainly look into the CPA ads in the future as well.

  2. Good work on the Twitter subscribers! Have you started a Facebook account? I also seem to draw a lot of traffic from Facebook.

    • I really need to start that facebook account! I actually have one, but have not yet developed it. It’s coming soon!:)

  3. Congrats on your progress so far. Things take time and you are doing really well. I have been at this almost a year already and it has been a slow process. You’ll get there. Just be patient.

    • Yeah, things seem slow, but I’m still pushing forward. I really love writing about finances and enjoy helping others with their issues.

  4. Great job and keep it up. We’re in the same boat. Just keep doing what you do! 🙂 Any advice on gaining more Twitter followers? Been a little weak in that department.

    • I don’t have too much advice other than to take interest and be a follower of others. Also, it’s great to have promotions as well!
