Happy New Year! Goals Update and Weekly Round-up #1

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had fun bringing in the new year – I know I did! My wife’s friend actually got married last night and the reception was basically a New Years Eve party! It was a blast to celebrate the evening with a few close friends of ours.

Goals – Past and Present

So, 2011 came and went in a hurry huh? Well, it’s time to wrap up the goals from last year and make some new ones for 2012!

Goals Still Hanging Around from 2011

Who would have thought that writing a book would take so long? I’ve heard a few different people say that writing a book takes about a year if you do it quickly. “Whatever”, I thought, “I’ll get this thing wrapped up in a few months, no problem.” That was back in May, 2011…..and the book is still not officially for sale.

I have made some great progress this past week, though. Since I was off from work, I had a few big stretches of time where I was able to sit down and type away for a few hours; and low and behold, I got about 4,000 words written!

Currently, Chapter 5 is getting its finishing touches (which does complete the book by the way), but then I’m going to write some bonus material as well. Once the bonus material is done, then I’ll have to edit it a few times, and then get some help from my wife to give it some visual appeal. Once that’s done, then it will need to be set up to sell! This is really getting exciting – I can’t wait to see how it’s received by the general public.

Goals for 2012

This year should be a monumental one. Corey, from 20s Finances, and I have partnered up to form the website, “Online Money Bloggers“. This site will inform other bloggers how to make money from their websites, but it’s not written by just anyone, and the advice doesn’t come from just one perspective. This website has advice coming in from 30 different people that are already making money with their online ventures! I predict that this site is going to be huge, and should attract a ton of eyeballs throughout the year 2012 (and beyond of course).

I have taken on a few other projects as well. The eBook should be on sale soon and won’t take up quite as much of my time in 2012, so I’ll ignore that as a current project. But, that still leaves my new website, “Creating A Passive Income“, and also a new partnership with Cash Flow Mantra called, “Grand Per Month“.

Mainly, my goal for 2012 will be just to keep up with all of these new projects! But, in order to hit my overall goal of earning $30,000 through my online ventures, I had to add a few things!

Good Luck to You In 2012!

I hope 2012 is a break-through year for the rest of you as well. May the new year bring you new friendships, continued love, and financial peace!

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.

  1. Can’t wait to read the book. Friendships are building, love has continued and hopefully financial peach comes this year.

    Happy New Year

    • I can’t wait to get it out there! It should be a popular one!

  2. Thanks for the mention. Can’t wait to read what all of the bloggers have to say at the 30k Challenge!

    • I know! All of the articles are flowing in and we’ll have guest posts live very soon!

    • It should be fun! Busy, but fun. 🙂

  4. Looking forward to a great 2012. Sounds like a blast on New Year’s Eve.

    • It sure was! I got my 6’8″ on the dance-floor for everyone to see. Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone learned any dance moves from me….. 😉

  5. It does sound like a fantastic way to spend new years eve, glad you had fun! I sadly went to bed at 10pm leaving my 10 year old daughter very angry we did not stay up til midnight haha.

If you ever get to the mid michigan area you and your wife have an open invitation to drop in for “free” coffee! 🙂

    • Uh oh, you’re a party pooper!! Ha, I can see myself doing the same thing though….

I didn’t realize that you were in Michigan! My wife and I travel around quite a bit. If we’re planning on heading across the state soon, we’ll let you know!

      • Yup I am a flat lander Michigander! Grew up for 28 years in the Howell area then tried Copper Harbor area 10 years (my youngest is a born and raised YOOPER)and now settled Central LOL.

Only been out of Michigan once in my life and that is when we tried North Carolina for a year, me and hubby liked it but the kids HATED it! So that is what led us to Central Michigan.

That would be awesome if you guys traveld in this neck of the woods.

        • Wow, you really are a Michigander! I’m not sure when we’ll be heading across the state, but we’ll let you know when we do!

  6. I couldn’t help but laugh when you commented on Yakezie that you have been coasting. You have about 5 major projects you’re working on – not what I call coasting!!! Best of luck to you in 2012. You’re going to crush it.

    • Haha, well I’m definitely not coasting now, but from July through November, I was a coastaholic…. Now I’m ready to crush it. 🙂

  7. Thanks for the links, I really appreciate it. I am glad 2011 is over, 2012 has to be better. Good luck in you goals. Happy New Year.

    • Thanks LaTisha. I’m looking forward to watching you too! I know you’ve got something up your sleeve! 🙂

  9. Derek, You’re one of the on line guys I’m watching. Good luck with your endeavors. And book writing is much harder than it seems. You have to put quality and perfection out there, and that takes time.

    • Boy, does it ever take time! This book is always on my mind, and it seems like I’m always working on it, but in order for it to sell more than a few copies, I’m going to have to make it epic, which is proving to take time and careful consideration. It’s still fun though, and I can’t wait to see the finished product out there on the “shelves”! 🙂

  10. Definitely sounds like you have your hands full. Good luck and looking forward to your growth.

    • I’ll be doing my best! It will definitely be busy, but it will be fun too! 🙂

  11. I’m sure you’ll hit your goals sooner than you think Derek! Good luck and thanks for the mention!

    • That would be awesome if I hit them sooner rather than later, but I wouldn’t mind a few struggles along the way. That’s when I really learn new things! 😉

  12. Thanks for the mention! I’m excited about checking out your new site — good luck in that goal and all your other 2012 goals!

    • I’m glad you’re excited about me new sites. I’m excited too!
