Goals Update and Weekly Round-Up #8

Do you have goals and dreams for your future? Do you have them written down? Every week, I remind myself of my goals for the month to make sure that I’m on track for hitting them. Sometimes I’m way behind the eight ball, and other times I really feel like I have a good handle on them. Either way though, my site improves and my readers have a better experience from the improvements.

Goals by the End of February

In alignment with my yearly goals, these were my goals for the end of February:

  1. 800 subscribers – Last week I was sitting at 698 subscribers, and I noticed my numbers start to slide down. I had planned to run a promotion in mid-February anyway, so I figured that now would be the perfect time. I’m giving away a $100 Amazon Gift Card to one lucky winner at the end of the month. This promotion has helped me bring my subscriber numbers up slightly, but not as much as I had hoped. I now have 706 subscribers…. I’m pretty sure that I’m not going to hit my goal of 800 by the end of this month…. Poop.
  2. Earn $1,500 with – To be honest, this month has been amazing. I have already blown by the $1,500 mark and can’t wait to share my numbers with you at the end of this month.
  3. Begin building the new free resource on my site – I just can’t devote much time to this project right now. There are other more necessary projects that need to be completed first. I did, however, put up a new Facebook Widget on my site. Pretty neato huh? Lol! I thought it looked pretty cool anyway.
  4. Pay an extra $1,200 on the mortgage at the end of February (actually on the first of March) – We are still on track to make this payment! I want to do our taxes first though, since I’m certain that we’ll owe in money this year. Once I figure out how much we owe, then I’ll make the official call. 🙂

This month has been incredibly fun so far. My career life couldn’t be better, my wife and I had an unbelievable Valentine’s Day, and my online ventures are really starting to take off!

In the next few months, I’m really going to devote a lot of time into my new site, Online Money Bloggers. I think there is a ton of potential there and I really think it could help a lot of bloggers with their sites. After all, OMB is a place where bloggers share their experiences in order to help others build, monetize, and maintain their sites like they never knew was possible! I can’t wait for this site to become mainstream. 🙂

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.

  1. Thanks for including my link! And congrats on your February income 🙂

    • No problem Jackie! I’m really liking your new site! I hope you’re having a lot of luck with it!

  2. Thanks so much for including us Derek! Re: subscribers – don’t sweat it. Last week we hit 749 then the wonky Feedburner said 689 the next day! 2 days later back to 719 or something. As long as the numbers don’t decline continuously I don’t see any problems on your site!

    • I expect some growth toward the end of the month when the promotion is coming to a close. We’ll see what happens!

  3. Looking at the whole picture you are doing fabulous! Keep up all the wonderful work you have been doing, my February did not do near as well and I am having a real hard time getting use to a wordpress site after so many years of using blogger!

Your sites really rock though and I am glad I found this site when I did so I can watch your new ventures from the beginning!

    • I guess the site is doing quite well! Thanks for the encouragement! Let me know if you need any help with your WordPress stuff – I’m not a master, but I’ve been using it for a little over a year and could probably help you out! Just reach me through my “Contact/Advertise” tab. Thanks!

  4. I hope you included your giveaway on some of the giveaway sites – I had a lot of success with these. Email me if you didn’t. I can’t wait to see your income from this month. It’s going to be hard to compete with my feb – which will be a huge outlier (sp?) probably. Looking forward to building up OMB as well.

    • I didn’t, but just emailed you about it and you’ve been quite helpful! Lol. Thanks buddy.

    • I can’t wait to show them! It might be my best month ever! 🙂

  5. Thank you very much for including my blog in your Weekly Round Up. And really – $1500 of income this month!? To me, that is both incredibly impressive as well as encouraging! Good job!

    • I know, I never thought $1,500 would be possible. Now I’m thinking, “Why not $5,000 or $10,000?” I’ll need to add some sites, but it’s really not that hard. I can’t wait to see what opportunities come my way in the future.

    • No problem Krantcents! You have a unique writing style, and it just keeps me coming back! Keep up the awesome work!

    • I’m glad that I can inspire! That’s pretty much the whole point of this site! Keep up the awesome work with yours and I bet you’ll be hitting hiring goals than me!

  6. Congrats on the success bro!

    • Thanks Kev! It’s been a crazy journey, but I’m loving it!

  7. Thanks for the mention! Looking forward to seeing how our February’s measure against each other, this was a great month for me too! 🙂

    • Awesome LaTisha! Glad to hear that you’re having a great month as well!
