Monthly Earnings Report: June 2011

[wp_campaign_1]

Do you ever wonder how much money this site makes per month? And, how does it generate the income? Where does it come from? All your questions will be answered in this post.

As expected, my first couple of earnings reports were a big hit. Not only is it of great interest for my blogging friends, but it’s also a right for my readers to know how this site is being funded. So, with no further ado, here’s the earnings report for June, 2011.

June 2011: Earnings Report

Based on the chart, you can still see that there’s some work to be done before I hit the same financial results as April, but that’s ok! I’m up from the last month, and based on the activity I’ve been receiving at the end of June, the month of July should be a record month! My earnings in June were $359.49. 🙂

Breakdown of Earnings: June 2011

Adsense: $39.49

Staff Writing: $180.00

Link Ads: $0.00

Sponsored Posts: $140.00

Total June 2011 Income: $359.49

Adsense

I was really blown away with how much money my Adsense account is producing. A few months ago, I actually considered removing these ads entirely because I couldn’t produce more than $10 per month!

Now that my number of visits have increased (mostly from improved SEO), it seems that I’m receiving more clicks as well (that only makes sense right?). Also, people are more drawn to my “Make More Money” section, which yields a higher return per click. So, rather than making $0.05 per click, I’m earning closer to $2.00 a click.

In addition to this, I have finally surpassed the $100 mark in Adsense revenue! I believe the $ per click increases after this milestone. Hopefully, my revenue will be around $50 next month from Adsense alone! 🙂

Staff Writing

As I mentioned last month, I’m now writing for 3 sites now: Passive Family Income, Prairie Eco Thrifter, and Bucksome Boomer. These are amazing sites, and I’m fortunate to be a part of the team. I think I wrote 9 articles for all of these sites combined and received $180. Not too bad! 🙂

Link Ads

I obviously didn’t have any link ads this past month, which is really fine with me. They just clutter up the site anyway.

Sponsored Posts

I had two sponsored posts in June. One of the posts was for an online glasses store and the other was for a Life Insurance Quote site. Both were great sites that were most likely of great use for the readers. Combined, these posts netted me $140.00.

Overall Summary

I am quite content to make more than $350 in June considering how busy I was (with things other than my site). I wasn’t even able to reach out to any ad agencies – they actually contacted me!

Last month, I stated that I expect to earn about $1,000 a month by September, 2011. While that isn’t a goal, and many of you said I was crazy, I still stand by this projection. September is still 3 whole months away. With the sale of my new eBook (coming at the end of June), that should be a piece of cake! 🙂

I hope this gave you an insight to my financial world. My readers have been excellent and I want to hide nothing from them. I also want to be transparent for those that want to start a blog of their own! Perhaps my site can be a help for them and their endeavors!

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.

  1. Congratulations on your revenue and thanks for the kind words about staff writing at Bucksome Boomer.

I set a goal of $1,000 per month blog revenue at the beginning of year and thought it was a stretch. I’m averaging more than that per month already and the year is only half over.

I believe you can do it!

  2. Wow. I am impressed by the amount that can be made by sponsored posting. I may have to look into this someday.

    • Sponsored posts are great! Not only do they provide the reader with quality information, they also pay quite well! It’s definitely a win-win!

  3. I think $1000 (or more) per month is absolutely doable.

  4. Congratulations! Keep up the great work, and Happy 4th of July weekend! (i.e. work on blog weekend:))

  5. Congratulations Derek! With this income now, $1000 a month seems very doable.

    Happy 4th of July!

  6. Congratulations on the nice chunk of cash. I’m heading over to the “make more money” section right now.

  7. I was very surprised about how easy $1000 a month becomes after 6 months of blogging and staff writing, so I think you’ll hit your not-goal for sure! Btw, why not make it a goal? That always seems to help me achieve them…

    Congrats on a great month!

    • I’d rather not make it a goal because I’m more concerned about the integrity of my site. I wouldn’t want to allow a company to advertise on my site that would negatively affect my readers! I’ll get there though. As long as I’m true to my readers, the monetary benefits will come.

  8. Thanks for sharing this! In the past couple of months I have been toying with the idea of starting my own blog–not toying, really, I’ve been taking steps to educate myself and get somethings in order. I really appreciate the transparency with which you and other bloggers present this information and it really helps out the newbies! I wish you the best of luck, you’ve grown a ton since you got started and I’m sure that will continue! 🙂
    ~Bridget 🙂

    • If you’re thinking about starting your own blog, just get started! I didn’t know a thing about web design or hosting when I started, but with Google, you can learn anything. Good luck to you Bridget! Can’t wait till you start your site. Let me know what it is when you set it up! 🙂

  9. Wow! What a great month. I know you will make it there by Sept. I have a goal of 500 by Sept, between both sites, and having a goal is really motivational. I’ll be rooting for you!

  10. Nice job man! I’m sure you’ll get there by end of the year at least, especially now that the pageranks have been updated.

    Cheers, Sam

  11. Congratulations on your earnings so far! I have no doubt you will reach your goal by Sept!

    • Thanks! I’ll do my best reach my non-goal, but not without compromising the integrity of this site!

    • Thanks for the encouragement Jeff! I know I’ll get there. It’s just a matter of time. 🙂

  12. Wow that is some income and I would love to have that type of income.
Best of luck for your goal and much more better months in the year.

    • Hi John! This type of income is quite doable! I expect to be making more than double this amount in July. You can do it too! If you have any questions, just contact me through my “Contact” tab. I can always help by answering a few questions here and there.

  13. Good numbers man.

Secondary income is the way forward for us all and can really help us lead the life we want to lead. Before i started my journey back in December I had one income stream, one means of earning money and essentially one way of increasing my earnings.

If the organisation underperformed then ‘pay freezes’ can be attributed to everybody. That would be another year without extra money. My motto is always, work hard in your day job and smash as much work as possible on a night. Any extra earnings are yours and you are building a resource with longevity.

    Again, great numbers.

    Ryan

    • I like what you said about working more than just your day job (while still working hard there of course). It’s so true! I want to create as many income streams between my wife and I as possible. So far, we have 4. Not too bad I’d say! Thanks for the compliments!

  14. It is really very informative to know that the earnings are detailed for the viewers to know. I hope viewers know what it means at all.

    • I’m glad you appreciate it Riyanna! There are quite a few sites that hide their earnings, which I think just isn’t necessary. I’d rather be open with my readers.

  15. Thank you for posting this valuable and very enlightening information. Actually, it was a friend of mine that sent your article to me because he thought it would be of interest. You see, he has been patiently listening to me whine about not getting any clicks on the ads I just placed on my blog! I have been blogging for 7 months now and about 3 weeks ago I decided it was time to monetize. I work full time at a day job but, as some of the other commenters here mention, my benefits have been reduced and my salary has been frozen for 3 years. There is a need to increase my monthly income and I truly hope to accomplish this by doing something I enjoy – writing. I haven’t made any money yet, but the passion I have for my site still drives me onward. It is comforting to see the transparency in your posts. Thank you, congratulations and best wishes!

    • Working at your passion will ultimately reap rewards! Just keep plugging away on that blog and you’ll get readers, and with readers will come advertising dollars. If you’re hoping to earn big money with Adsense, it’s probably not going to happen. I have thousands of visitors each month and the most I’ve earned from Adsense has been $39 (last month). If you show a passion for your site, you’ll be contacted for advertisements. Good luck! And thanks for visiting!
