The past couple of weeks have just been flying by! We officially purchased our house on August 2 and we’ve worked on it in some form or fashion every night since! Surprisingly, I’m not yet burnt out, but I’m getting close.
As for my website, I have to say it’s still a blast! When one of my articles received 60 comments, I was blown away! I love the interaction with my readers. Keep it coming!
The House
I know that many of you are curious about our house and the progress we’re making with it. When we bought this property, we could have moved in right away, but there were certain areas that just needed sprucing up and patching.
I’ll just give you the short version of our progress because my wife has agreed to write an entire “home renovation” post in the near future! I’m sure the article will come fully equipped with photos of every room :).
I mentioned that we hired a professional to refinish and stain our floors. Here’s a little preview of the progress.

ย And, most of you know that we tore down the ceiling and the walls in our dining room (due to millions of nail holes….). Take a look at our progress on this project (thanks to my father-in-law!).

Hopefully you’ve enjoyed the pictures as much as I’ve enjoyed the progress! ๐
Goals Update
I have accomplished many of my old goals, so I figure itโs time for some new ones! Hereโs what Iโm going to try to accomplish by the end of August.
1) Finish my eBook – Between my full time job, keeping up with this site, staff writing, and renovating a house every day, I’m finding that it may be impossible to get this book done soon. I have finished quite a lot of it, and perhaps I’ll write up an article about it with a discounted “Pre-order” for the book when it releases later this year.
For now though, I think it goes on the backburner once again…. If only I didn’t need to get any sleep. Why can’t I be one of those people that only needs 3-4 hours of sleepย a night? Stinkin normal body….
2) Continue to Write 4 Quality Posts Per Week โ Yep, you can count on me sticking to this schedule! Always have, always will. ๐

AUTHOR Derek
My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.

The house is looking good. Can’t wait for the complete update. Once you are done with the house project, it will seem like you have loads of extra time.
Thanks CFM! After the house is mostly finished, I will have much more time, and there’s no telling what I will accomplish! ๐
BIG congratulations on the home purchase! The wooden floors looks absolutely gorgeous. We’ve been in our home now for two years September 11th, and have done multiple projects (renovated two downstairs bathrooms, painted almost all of the rooms, renovated the laundry room, adding door knobs in brushed nickel, modernized all of the closets). It’s really, really coming together and feeling like home though, and was certainly worth it. And the great news is we saved a ton because we did most of the work ourselves!
Thank you for including my article.
Thanks Amanda! I can’t wait to see those wooden floors when they’re all finished (should be the end of this week)!
Oh Goody a house update! I’ve done the reno-thing 7 times now and its great fun to hear about your adventures. The floors look great! Good luck on the mud..that was never easy for me.
7 times!!??!? wow, maybe I should hire you! ๐
I think we are getting a friend to mud the drywall joints. That is another project that would probably take me forever….
Best of luck with the house! It can be a lot of work but it’s well worth it.
We are really starting to see some progress now, and it’s getting really exciting! Can’t wait to work on it some more this week. ๐
The house will be very satisfying once you are done. Congrats!
I plan on sitting back on the couch, looking around with satisfaction, and then taking a nap! Haha! ๐
You done a lot on the house in a little more than two weeks. It looks great!
We really have gotten a lot done haven’t we? It’s been fun so far, and I can’t wait for this weeks progress!
It looks like things are coming along with the house. No need to rush the book. Better to release a quality product.
Yep. I really do want to release a quality product, so we’ll push the book back to an indefinite date…. Once the house is done, I’m going to cruise with the eBook! ๐
Nice job working on the house! It looks good!
Thanks Robert! It’s starting to really come together! ๐
Thanks for the mention. Excited to see the forthcoming before and after pics ๐ I’m sure all the work will be WELL worth it in the end. ๐
Yep! Those before and after pics will be fun to see! ๐
The house is looking great. You should be proud of all of your hard work.
Don’t worry about your ebook. It will get done. You have a lot going on right now and burning yourself out is not a good thing so put on the list for later. You are still doing great.
Thanks Miss T! I really appreciate the kind words. Tonight, I actually have some time to myself and I think I’m going to get a good rest!
Derek! You have a huge and nice place to live. Thanks for sharing your post.
We’re going to stain the floors dark and have most of the walls light. It’s going to look awesome! All for a reasonably low price too! Thanks for the compliments. ๐
