Google is Cutting Me Checks For My Site!

[wp_campaign_1]

I didn’t really believe it at first, but there it was, in my hands: a paycheck from Google. Yes, I said Google, the top ranked search engine website in the world! They are currently worth $190 billion, and I am now not only associated with them, but I am receiving paychecks from them. I have to say, it’s a feeling I never knew would be so special.

So, now the question is, “What was the check for and how much was it?!” I wish I could tell you that they bought me out for millions because I were a threat to their company’s profitability, but we all probably know that wasn’t the case. Maybe someday…. πŸ™‚

The truth is simple. A few months after I started my site, I decided to monetize it with Google Adsense, where Google is basically the intermediary between advertisers and the host sites. The advertiser pays a predetermined amount per click, and the mighty search engine keeps roughly half of the profits and gives the host site (that’s me)Β the other half.

When I first signed up, I figured that I would be making $500 a month within the first 6 months (I even made an exponential chart of my projections….yes, I am slightly nerdy…). This was severely inaccurate. Since I began utilizing these ads, I have made $118.59 total in 9 months. The check is below to prove it.

Honestly though, this was probably some of the easiest money I ever made. I started the site in my spare time one day, I had fun writing the articles, and the Google Adsense was set up once and I never changed it again.

You Can Do It Too!

You should know that Google Adsense is not the only income for a website. There are tons of other ways to make an income. You can work directly with advertisers and have paid links/images on your site. There are also affiliate marketers that will pay you if someone buys their product through your site. Just these two avenues alone produce many income opportunities!

Have you been thinking about starting your own site? Pretty soon, you could be holding a check from Google just like mine (the pay gets better in time, trust me). Plus, you could be making more money online than you do at your full-time job. I’veΒ heard the story time and time again, and now I’m well on my way too!

How I Got Started

When I signed up, I researched the site that had the cheapest monthly expense and the best customer service. The result: iPage. It’s been great for me, and if you’re thinking about getting started, they are an excellent web-host for the money. Plus, they offer you a free domain name with your sign-up. The total package for the first year can cost as little as $44.

My cousin and my brother actually just started their own sites with iPage as well. My cousin started her site, “World of Finance“, and my brother just started his site, “Lessons of Leadership” (he just started it up a few days ago, so we still have to pretty it up). They are both loving it and I couldn’t be more proud of them.

If you are at all worried about starting your own site, don’t be. It’s a great experience where you’ll meet many friends and can potentially rake in some dough at the same time. Good luck! πŸ™‚

AUTHOR Derek

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.

  1. I should be getting another check from Google in September. I had been down to every other month by using a content farm but am having to build myself back up after the Panda Update. Progress is happening though and hopefully by next year at this time, I will be getting $100 each month.

  2. It is exciting to enjoy what you do and get paid for it. Congratulations on your success and it sounds like you are enjoying the journey as well, which ironically, I just posted this morning on my leadership blog:).

    • The journey certainly is fun. Who would have thought that you could get paid for what you love to do? Crazy. I can’t wait for what the future holds. πŸ™‚

  3. Congrats! Little by little, you’ll get there!

Keeps you motivated, no matter what size the checks are. They’ll just continue to get bigger and bigger as great content comes out!

    • The checks ARE getting bigger and bigger. It’s been a fun ride and the future holds great things as well I’m sure.

  4. I’ve been with Adsense for over two years and have gotten two payments, so it’s not going to make you rich, but it is better than nothing!

    • Yep, Google Adsense is not a huge money maker, unless you own 50 different sites. I might get there someday, but not in the near future.

  5. Good work! Always fun when the money starts rolling in.

    • It sure is. It was just such a special feeling to get a check from Google. I’m not sure why.

  6. Congrats on your Google check! Wow it’s turning into a family business with your cousin and brother jumping on board. I use iPage, too. When I started, I ran into some errors, but they have been pretty stable since.

    • Haha. It sure is! They are both very talented, and I can’t wait to see how much their sites will grow! It’s going to be exciting.

  7. It’s always nice to get paid — especially for something you enjoy doing anyway!

    • Sure is nice! I think I might write for free (actually, I guess I did for a while when I first started the site and no one knew it existed), but the money is just an added bonus. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks! I think the money is already earmarked for bringing our new house back to life! What do you think I could buy for $118? Maybe a couple of toilet seat covers? Half of a tub surround? A rental sander? They all sound like good options… πŸ˜‰

  8. Congrats Derek. Money is money right?! My adsense earnings haven’t come as fast as I would like, but it is a bit of bonus money that helps with blog expenses. Best of luck with raising that number and thanks for the tip about Ipage.

    • It is nice isn’t it? Extra money is always welcomed. I’m hoping that I’ll soon have the problem of having too much money. It seems like that would be an easier problem than not having enough.

  9. Lucky! I got kicked a while ago. That will be some nice diversity for income. In other news, I made my first affiliate sale today! Keep up the good work Derek.

    • Affiliate sales are nice! Keep those rolling and you’ll be kicking my butt in income in no-time! All of the top bloggers bank a large amount from affiliate sales.

  10. World of Finance is your cousin?! How cool, I didn’t know that!
    ::checking for resemblance:::

    Ok I’m back πŸ™‚
    Congrats on getting paid!

    • I don’t think you’ll find any resemblance…. My cousin and I always laugh because I don’t think our physical structure could be any different. However, our financial minds are quite alike. πŸ™‚

  11. Congrats primo πŸ™‚ Job well done. Great to have a hobby that can potentially turn into income. πŸ™‚

    • It sure is! Thanks for the congrats! I think pretty much anyone could earn their own Google check, but it takes perseverance and patience! If you work hard enough, long enough, good things start to happen. πŸ™‚

    • He’s having fun with it so far, and I’m proud of him for starting it. I hope it turns into everything he wants it to be.

  12. Congrats!

I didn’t know Google still sends out checks. It’s been awhile since my first, but I thought it was all EFT and no checks now?

Maybe just the first one is a check?

Either way, onward and upward! Here’s to more of those awesome checks.

    • Checks is still an option, and I thought it’d be fun to get one in the mail. And…..IT WAS! πŸ™‚ LOL

  13. Congratulation! We just passed the $100 threshold in July as well and I’m looking forward to the first check. Hopefully, there won’t be any problems.

    • Awesome! It’s an amazing feeling to get that first check in your hands. You’ll have to let me know what it feels like for you. πŸ™‚

  14. Congrats! Keep writing and building up your blog and you’ll be getting a check every month before you know it.

    • Right now I think I’m at about every other month. It sure would be nice to get one every month! I’ll get there. πŸ™‚

  15. Congratulations on your first check! I just passed the threshold of entering my payment information ($10 haha) but I’m looking forward to my first check!

    • You’ll get there. Just keep posting quality articles and the clicks will come! πŸ™‚

  16. Congrats on your success. I’ve been considering setting up adsense on my blog for a while. Not sure if it’s worth it because I don’t have much traffic yet. It would be interesting to know what is your traffic and CTR on your blog πŸ™‚

    Have a good day,
    Anita

    • I’ve heard that it’s actually best to wait a while before setting up Adsense. If you set it up too early, you’ll get junky ads that don’t pay much. But, if you wait until you’re more developed, then the ads will be higher quality and will pay out more per click.
