Goals Update and Weekly Round-Up #3

Do you have goals and dreams for your future? Do you have them written down? Every week, I remind myself of my goals for the month to make sure that I’m on track for hitting them. Sometimes I’m way behind the eight ball, and other times I really feel like I have a good handle on them. Either way though, my site improves and my readers have a better experience from the improvements.

Goals by the End of January

In alignment with my yearly goals, here are my goals for the end of this month:

  1. 725 subscribers
  2. Earn $1,250 with
  3. Brainstorm potential free resource ideas
  4. Pay an extra $1,200 on the mortgage before the end of the month

How Am I Doing?

1) 725 subscribers – Currently, my site has 677 subscribers and is not gaining more than 2 or 3 new subscribers (net) per week. I need to do something to change this – perhaps add a message at the end of each post about subscribing? I should have something in place by next week in order to hit my goal.

2) Earn $1,250 – So far this month, I have earned $1,150 thanks to a new widget ad and a couple of sponsored posts. I should easily earn another $100 to meet my goal of $1,250.

3) Brainstorm New Resources – I honestly haven’t brainstormed that much since last week, but I still think it’s a good idea to put some budget sheets together to help others understand where their money is going each month.

4) Pay $1,200 Toward the Mortgage – We’re on track to do this by the end of the month, but our Jeep has recently been making some crazy noises, which makes me nervous that the extra money will go toward repairs. Only time will tell though. I should be able to take care of this one by next week! Exciting! 🙂

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.

  1. Sounds like a really good income month for the site. You should be able to make $100 in the next 2 weeks.

    • Hopefully, the income will creep above $2,000. It’d be a great start to the 30k Challenge!

    • Keep up the great work! Creating goals is essential to pressing forward and attaining them. Keep up the great work!

  2. Great work on the income! It looks like January will be a great month for you. Way to go on the mortgage!!

    • It is shaping up to be a great month. If some other deals go through, then I’ll be in pretty good shape!

  3. Round up success. 🙂 How can we get more subscribers?

    • Every time I have a giveaway, I allow the readers to earn more entries by subscribing to my site – this seems to boost the numbers quite a bit. The cheapest way is just to write amazing content that the readers never want to miss.

  4. Thank you for including my post!

I remember our second vehicle died about three weeks after we moved into our first home. It was quite the bummer. Hope your jeep holds out until Atleast your second anniversary there!

    • Arg. I hope I don’t have the same experience as you. Quite honestly, I think the Jeep just had a bunch of snow crammed in the wheel wells, which prevented it from turning – it happens sometimes in our snowy land of Michigan. It seems to be running fine now, so let’s hope that we can put some major money toward that mortgage payment! 🙂

  5. Nice progress toward your goals. Thanks for the links, I really appreciate it.

    • No problem! Are you having fun with your goals yet?

    • No problem! Thanks for the kudos on the goals. I’m looking to hit every one of them. 🙂

    • There might be a giveaway coming soon. I’m due to give one to my faithful readers anyway! 😉

  6. Goodluck with your goals! You help other people like me with your simple tips and thoughts!..

    Keep up the good work!

    • I’m glad I can help you out! Check out the new site, . There are tons of ideas there from bloggers that are hoping to make $30k+ this year. I (along with my friend Corey) built the site to help other bloggers monetize their sites as well. I bet you’ll like it. 🙂

  7. Congrats on the income Derek. You are well on your way for sure. What new widget are you using? I am curious.

    • Thanks Miss T! Hoefully the income continues to come in. Sometimes, you just never know…

  8. I really appreciate the triple-shot, Derek. I will respond in kind for sure. 🙂

    • No problem IIW! Love your stuff!
