Do you ever wonder how much money this site makes per month? How does it generate the income? Where does it come from? All your questions will be answered in this post.
As expected, these earnings reports have been a big hit (I started doing this in April, 2011). Not only is it of great interest for my blogging friends, but I also believe that my readers have a right to know how this site is being funded. So, with no further ado, here’s the earnings report for February, 2012.
February 2012 Earnings Report
Breakdown of the Earnings: February 2012
Adsense – $93.19
Staff Writing – $142.81
Link Ads/Widgets – $2,138.86
Sponsored Posts – $1053.00
Affiliate Sales – $105
Online Money Bloggers Site: $310.82
Total February 2012 Income – $3,843.68!
I was a little shocked at the income level from Adsense this past month. I expected to hit the high $60s, but never did I expect to get so close to $100! My site, Creating a Passive Income contributed a little, but only about $7.69 worth.
I’m quite uncertain about what will come of my Adsense earnings in the future months. Was this just a fluke? Or, is this something that will be sustainable and continue to grow as my site continues to gain readership? We’ll just have to wait and see. I wouldn’t be surprised if earnings hovered around $70 next month though.
I wrote 6 articles for other sites and earned $142.81, which is an average of $23.80 per post. That’s not too bad considering it only takes about 40 minutes to write a solid article. This income should stay fairly consistent from month to month.
I had an unbelievable month of link ads and widgets in February! I made a point to reach out to my advertisers and let them know that I was looking for high-quality links from my homepage, and boy did they respond! In the month of February, I sold 9 link/widget slots (varying from a 3 month term up to a full 1 year term) for a total of $2,138.86.
This income is certainly not sustainable since I can’t just load up 100 link ads on my sidebar page. I’ll have to limit these offers in the near future and continue to direct my focus toward affiliate links. But, in order to bring in some consistent revenue, I’ll need to continue to increase the number of eyeballs that are landing on my page each month.
This category was pretty slow in the previous couple of months, but February definitely made up for it. I hosted 7 posts for $1,053. This also is not sustainable and depends purely on advertisers reaching out to me through my “Contact/Advertise” tab. I hope to see this revenue again in March, but there is definitely no guarantee.
I’m always excited when I make an affiliate sale because it’s entirely passive (I don’t have to spend the time to put up a post or a home-page link – readers just click on a link and make an order, and I am paid the royalties).
I often refer my new bloggers to iPage because they have treated me quite well throughout the entire span of this website. Whenever a reader clicks on the link and creates a new site, I earn $105. It’s good money, and I believe that iPage is a great web-host, so it’s really a win-win.
In February, I made one sale and was paid $105.

Corey and I reached out for some ad deals in February and were able to make some deals for side-bar homepage links. My cut of the deals was $310.82.
Recap of February, and Expectations for March
In December, I earned $798. In January, I earned $1,559. In February, I earned $3,843.68. In these past 3 months, I have seen a crazy spike in income – so what in the world should I expect for March? I’m not so ignorant that I think I’ll continue the trend and earn $5,000+, but let’s predict what might be probable based on the opportunities of my various projects.
My business partner and I have big plans for this site, and we know that it could be quite profitable by the end of 2012, but up until now, we really haven’t made a big push to earn an income via this project.
Our main focus will be to increase readership this month so that we can begin to promote various affiliate products (that we believe in highly). I don’t expect a huge income in March – maybe $300 in affiliate sales – but the months after that could easily break $1,000+ if we focus a little more on our SEO.
Also, we’ll continue to accept a few homepage links here and there, so for the month of March, I bet we could earn another $800+ through this medium. After expenses and the equal divide for our partnership, my cut of that will be somewhere in the realm of $450.
This site is really beginning to take shape. My SEO efforts are paying off, I have a PR of 3, and my mozRank just got bumped up to a 3.81. Advertisers are starting to show interest.
I bet I could reach out to my advertisers and make 4-5 ad deals for my homepage (at minimum). This could easily equate to $1,200+ in income for the month of March.
My wife and I are currently working on the cover design and I’ll soon be pre-selling the book. I have no idea what kind of income to expect, but I’m going to take a stab in the dark and say that my earnings will be $200 in the month of March (I’m giving this a low estimate since I most likely won’t get it up for sale until the middle of the month).
Summary for March Predictions
Assuming that my main site can continue to earn an average of $1,200 or so in the future months, when I factor in the revenue from OMB ($450), Creating a Passive Income ($1,200), and my eBook ($200), I wouldn’t be surprised if I had another $3,000 month. Wish me luck! 🙂
My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.
