Goals Update and Weekly Round-Up #14

Do you have goals and dreams for your future? Do you have them written down? Every week, I remind myself of my goals for the month to make sure that I’m on track for hitting them. Sometimes I’m way behind the eight ball, and other times I really feel like I have a good handle on them. Either way though, my site improves and my readers have a better experience from the improvements.

Goals For April, 2012

We’re mid way through April now, so I guess I’d better review the goals that I set for myself this month!

  1. 1,154 Subscribers – I know this is kind of a weird number, but I made this goal about a year ago and I intend to hit it! In March, I had about 760 subscribers and currently, I have about 820. That’s a pretty good jump, but I’ve still got over 300 subscribers to go before I hit my goal! I’ve got a little bit of work today, but I don’t consider myself out of this race yet.
  2. House Project: Finish the Upstairs of Our House, Minus the Trim – I actually forgot about this goal completely!! I have been doing a decent job working on the house though. As of today, we are finished painting the trim on our stairway (which was incredibly tedious). Now, we have to paint the trim around each doorway and each window, paint each door, and then install them. There’s still quite a lot of work to be done, but I think it can be done!
  3. Finish Editing the eBook and Put it into a PDF Format – the book has been completely edited, so now I just have to pretty it up a bit and put it into PDF format (this is where I somehow shmooze my wife because she’s amazing at this). Hopefully, you’ll be seeing a completed book by the end of this month!
  4. Make Yet Another $1,200 Extra Payment – This extra payment should happen, but it kind of depends on the sale of our Jeep. Out bank account is lower than usual because we paid cash for our 2008 VW Beetle, but once we sell the Jeep (hopefully for more than $6,000), we’ll have plenty of cash and will make this extra payment. And, we might even make up for last month’s missed payment!

All in all, I’m feeling pretty good about the goals this month! I think that I have a pretty good shot at accomplishing everything (which I don’t think I’ve ever done)! Wish me luck. I’ll keep you all posted on my progress next week (and maybe even show you some pictures.

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.

    • Haha, I wouldn’t say that’s what counts. Hitting the goals is what counts!

    • Yeah, it’s a pretty crazy goal, but I think I’ve got a chance. There’s still 15 more days to make it happen! 🙂

  1. Door painting is a lot of work–I painted two this past weekend. But they look great and it is really nice to see them installed.

  2. Hi Derek,
Well yes that’s true, hitting the mark is actually what counts.

  3. Great article, Derek. I often find myself getting to the end of each day and thinking, “What did I actually get done today?”. lol. I think its best to physically write out a list and keep it next to me all day. Great article and I hope to catch some more tips in the future.

  4. I agree with Jai. If you feel great, that is what matters. Keep up the hard work and your positive attitude.

Also, thanks for including Marie’s article this week.

    • No problem Miss T. I never mind linking to your site. It’s awesome!

  5. I was wondering if you were going to make up for the extra payment from last month. It looks like you aren’t missing a step at all!

    • We’re going to try! We’ll have to see how the numbers play out at the end of this month. Hopefully the Jeep is sold and gone by then!
