Goals Update and Weekly Round-Up #19

Do you have goals and dreams for your future? Do you have them written down? Every week, I remind myself of my goals for the month to make sure that I’m on track for hitting them. Sometimes I’m way behind the eight ball, and other times I really feel like I have a good handle on them. Either way though, my site improves and my readers have a better experience from the improvements.

Goals for May, 2012

So it’s already May 13, and I figure that I’d better start focusing on my goals before the month escapes me! Let’s check out how I’m doing.

  1. House Project: Finish Upstairs and Main Level, Minus Trim – This one is almost laughable…. I don’t think I’ve made any progress whatsoever on the upstairs bedroom or bathroom. This is why I write these goals down though, because now I realize that I should probably get to work on a few things!
  2. Put eBook into a PDF Format, Build My Site for it, and Sell It! – This has been pretty stagnant as well. I know I have to do it, but life is just so busy!! Hopefully I’ll have a better report next week.
  3. Get That Jeep Sold and Make a Double Payment on the Mortgage – The jeep is almost sold! There are a couple of items that need to be addressed, but I have a couple of serious lookers so I fully expect to have sold the Jeep by next week. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

While I definitely didn’t finish every goal this month, I do have a piece of exciting news! I sold the Jeep! My wife and I now have $5,850 extra dollars into our bank account and it feels good! I already set aside $1,200 for one additional payment this month, and I’m pretty confident that we’ll be able to make that second payment too. This will get us right back on track for paying our house off in just over 4 years.

The eBook is still a stand still. It really shouldn’t take that much time, but it’s just one of those extra things that often takes a while to get to.

And then there’s the house. We still have made very little progress on this, and I’m getting antsy (this is a warning for my wife, who was not too pleased last time I took out a paint brush…. ;)). I might just have to tackle a new project today.

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.

  1. Congrats on selling the Jeep! I haven’t been doing the best on all of my goals either but at least I am reminded of them every week when I do my posts. Hopefully this week is better, but with a big yard project on the horizon I’m thinking it probably won’t be.

    • That’s right! The emergency fund is beefy again. 🙂
