I’m Down $220 Because My Glasses Are Ruined

[wp_campaign_1]

Have you ever broken anything that had value and that you absolutely couldn’t live without? Perhaps you totalled your vehicle, or maybe you broke one of your house windows, or perhaps you busted one of your floor lamps. These items needed to be replaced, so by breaking them, you basically threw some of your money down the drain.

My Glasses Are Dead

Most of the time, I wear contacts, but when I hop on my computer at night, I feel like my eyes just need a break. So, I’ll bust out my trusty glasses and wear them for the remainder of the evening.

A couple of nights ago, my wife and I decided to sleep in the living room, which is about 10 degrees cooler than our upstairs bedroom. The temperature felt marvelous, and because we were in such a good mood, we decided to let Lucy, our 9 month old puppy, sleep in our make-shift bed.

Just before I went to sleep, I took off my glasses and began placing them on my Bible, which was resting on the floor next to our bed. I paused for a moment, and had visions of our dog tearing into them during the night while we were asleep. I quickly dismissed the thought though – Lucy had never done anything like that. I’m sure they’ll be just fine resting on the floor.

The sun rose and we were well-rested. I reached my hand down to where I had placed my glasses and…..nothing. They were not there. I was hoping that I merely misplaced them. “Maybe I decided not to set them on the floor. Maybe I put them on the bookshelf…. or maybe on the table?” Nope. They were nowhere to be found.

It was time to blame Lucy. I walked back over to the living room and reached under the ottoman (this is where she hides anything of value). Sure enough, I felt the stem of the glasses… When I pulled them out they were in even worse shape than I expected!

There was no repairing these beauts. The stems were half-eaten, the lenses had canine impressions, and the overall shape was completely destroyed!

Replacement Glasses

Since I’m not willing to spend another $220, I decided to surf the web for a cheap replacement. Zenni Optical won my vote. They’ve got glasses for under $40 out the door, and that includes the frames and the prescription lenses!

As for my contacts (if you’re curious), I always go to http://www.1800contacts.com/lenses/acuvue. Not only do they have a price match guarantee, but they also have free shipping if you order more than $50! It’s quick and easy, and I’ve never shopped anywhere else.

Alright. I think it’s time for me to find some glasses at Zenni!

After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. 1. I learned the Zenni Lesson several years ago. But the really valuable thing I learned was: buy MORE than one pair of glasses. Set the extras aside. With the prices on Zenni, you can easily afford to do that, and if something happens again with your main pair of glasses, you have a backup.

I am sure I must sound like a Zenni rep, but I’m not. I just love the fact that I don’t have to spend an arm and a leg for glasses any more!

    • I really don’t use my glasses that often – only late at nights. So, I’ll just be buying the one pair. I absolutely love the fact that they’re so cheap though. I’ll never buy another $220 pair of glasses again in my life!

  2. I agree with gharkness. It makes no sense at that price to go without. I would be curious to see how good those are too. I am skeptical when it comes to things like that.

  3. Our DIL buys glasses for our granddaughter through Zenni. Kids go through a LOT of glasses, and purchasing online just makes sense. She was skeptical the first time she ordered, and took the glasses and granddaughter to the optometrist to be sure the lenses were correct. They were perfect, and she’s been a devoted customer since.

    • That’s an awesome story. Thanks for letting us all know!

  4. I’m a big fan of Coastal.com

The first pair is completely free if you use the code firstpairfree

Well not 100% free, gotta pay shipping

    Just another alternative to zenni

    • Cool. Thanks for the tip!

  5. Should have trusted your gut about the potential damage. Next time you’ll know 🙂

    • Ha, yep. Now there’s absolutely nothing on the floor! 🙂

  6. I use coastal.com every once in a while they have a firstpairfree code and you just pay shipping. I knew I would need a new pair I waited for the deal and now I have a new pair that cost $12.

    • I just ordered my pair from Zenni and the total was $16.95, and that was after the anti-glare covering, tax, and shipping! Not too shabby.
