Goals Update #29

Do you have goals and dreams for your future? Do you have them written down? Every week, I remind myself of my goals for the month to make sure that I’m on track for hitting them. Sometimes I’m way behind the eight ball, and other times I really feel like I have a good handle on them. Either way though, my site improves and my readers have a better experience from the improvements.

Goals for July, 2012

Well, it’s already July 22! Time to take a look at those goals again.

1) Pay Extra Payment of $1,200 on the Home Loan

With this extra payment, we’ll officially owe less than $60,000 on our mortgage! That’s kind of exciting, don’t you think? Then the next goal will be the $50,000 mark, and then $40,000….and so on until we’re at zero! :)

While the $1,200 is still stashed away, this extra payment is a little in danger right now. My wife and I decided that she needed to have a back-up camera for her wedding photography, so that purchase drained our account a bit. I then received a medical bill in the mail to the tune of $580. And, yesterday my brake line busted on my truck and will cost around $200 to repair.

After the bills are paid, hopefully we’ll have enough left over to bring that mortgage loan below the $60k mark.

2) Complete More House Projects

My past goals haven’t always been so realistic, so this month, I’m going to cut back on them a little bit. I want to install our final register cover in our bedroom and paint our two main doors upstairs. If I’m feeling ambitious, I want to also sand and paint our 3 main level doors, but this is merely extra if I complete the main projects.

I started looking over these goals yesterday and realized that I hadn’t lifted a finger at any of these house projects! So, I decided that I had to do something! I’m happy to report that I installed both register covers and put two coats of paint on both of the doors upstairs. They’ll soon be dry and ready for installation. 🙂

3) Continue to Write Quality Articles

I never make this a goal, but it’s a ton of work to come up with and write quality articles every week. I personally write 2 articles and post 2 staff written articles for this site, 2 articles for my site – Creating a Passive Income, 1 article for my other site – Online Money Bloggers, and I staff write 1 post per week for other sites. That’s at least 6 articles per week that I’m putting together!

I’m still going strong on all of my article writing, and I’m confident that I’ll hit this goal come the end of this month.

What have your goals been? Are you hitting them by your deadlines?

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.

  1. I’ve been taking some time off from my house goals but my blog goals have been blown away. I’ll be updating in a few days when August shows up 🙂

    • Great job on hitting your goals! Can’t wait to see what the next ones are.

  2. Yikes! Bad things happen in 3’s right? Owing less than $60k is awesome. I have a feeling you’ll be at $0 in no time.

    • It’s not all bad. It’ll work out! Wait for the next report.

  3. I knocked off one of my goals that was delayed for months. More to follow in an article.

    • Awesome! I’m hoping to do the same thing very soon. Looking forward to the article.

  4. My biggest stumbling block is setting goals that are unrealistic. What’s helped me is to make my goals more realistic based on everything else I have going on but when I have extra time (and energy) I throw it into completing my goals ahead of schedule. Then I can work on the next goal sooner which always motivates me and makes me feel like I’m making forward progress.

    • Sounds like you’re getting it figured out! Best of luck to you and your goals in the future!
