Dear Addi… A Father’s Dream For His Daughter

20160509 - dear addiDear Addi,

You came into this world just 5 days ago and already I’d fight to the death for you. Your little nose, your random smirks, and your glassy eyes – you’ve got me wrapped around your finger for sure.

When I sit in the quiet, looking at you, and you peering back at me, I begin to dream of what you’ll become….

A Servant

I want you to love others first and consider yourself second. In a world where we’re taught to watch out for numero uno, I’ll teach you to swim against the current. Serve others first and you’ll never finish last. I promise.

A Believer

Your Mom and I will teach you to believe in God and in the death and resurrection of his son, Jesus. You’ll know the wisdom of the Bible and you’ll follow Jesus’ teachings. With this belief we’ll not only enjoy our time together on this earth, but in Heaven for all eternity.

A Student

I wish for you to be a student always – not just in school, but in all of life. Be curious about everything and be a student of everyone. No matter who you meet and no matter what they say, there’s always a take-away. Keep both ears open and be a perpetual learner.

A Teacher

Don’t limit yourself to absorption. Share your wisdom with others. Many will be afraid to speak up and instruct the crowd. If you are knowledgeable, take the reigns and speak!

A Saver

America is such a wasteful place. Today, people throw away their money before they even earn it. New cars, huge houses, and designer clothing – these are the typical pitfalls of the common man. I wish that you’ll be a contented saver – one that earns plenty and spends the minimum on the necessities.

  • A new car – who needs it?!
  • A 5,000 square foot house – what a waste of time and money!
  • Dolce and Gabbana – I hope they never steal your paycheck

Many could easily live on half of their income. Succeed in this and you’ll never be sorry.

An Investor

Not only should you save your money, but you should invest so that it grows far larger than you ever imagined it could. And don’t just invest it in the stock market and cross your fingers – this is the poor man’s game. Invest in real estate, businesses, and develop your own start-ups.

A Runner

Exercise often. It’s good for the body, the mind, and the soul. Take the time to care for yourself and your body will reward you.

A Daughter

Never stop being a part of this family. Your Mom and I will love you forever no matter what, and we hope for the same unconditional love in return.

Let’s laugh often, live fully, and love always. We love you Addilyn Marie.

Battle of the Mind Money

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.

  1. Little Addi is so special, just like her parents. Blessings.

    • Thanks Sherry!
