More and more of you are starting your own blogs these days. That’s AWESOME!! Congrats! For those of you who are still on the fence about taking the plunge (well, for just $24 I’m not sure I’d call this a plunge, but hey, it’s a commitment right?), this might just give you a push in the right direction.
Top Paying Blog Topics For Your New Blog
If you’ve been contemplating a new blog start-up, then I bet you’ve been thinking about your passion. After all, you can’t just automatically be successful at something you care nothing about.
For instance, I don’t know anything about physical therapy, and I really don’t care to learn about it either. Sure, the blog topic might pay amazingly well, but if I don’t have a passion for it, what are the odds that I’ll create a successful blog that makes thousands of dollars a month?
Let me help you with this one….very little.
On the other hand, I absolutely LOVE personal finance. I’d keep blogging for the next 10 years even if I never made a dime from it. And that’s EXACTLY why my blog’s been successful.
So here’s the key. If your passion aligns with the top paying blog topics below, then I’d say it’s time to get started my friend!
Okay, there aren’t too many people that are passionate about insurance, but you might be one of those weird people that loves to be safe and think everyone else should have a whack-load of insurance as well (and to be honest, many of us should probably have more insurance than we do – I know I’m guilty).
According to WordStream, Google Adsense charges insurance companies nearly $55 per click to advertise their business, which means your site about insurance could yield some pretty hefty profits!
Here are the top types of insurance that would likely get attention from your readers:
- Car insurance
- Home insurance
- Life Insurance
- Boaters insurance
- Rental insurance
Want a site with one of the top paying blog topics? Look to the loan/mortgage industry. If you’re into real estate or believe that everyone should take on other sorts of loans for their personal benefit (I, for the record do not…), then this might be a good topic for you.
Mortgage and loan companies pay over $44 per click to get their business name out there. If Google passes just half of those earnings on to you and you get 100 clicks per month, that’s a pretty decent payout of $4,400 every single month! Nice!
Believe it or not, colleges typically pay for advertising as well. After all, without students they have no revenue. So ads are pretty essential – especially online!
If you’re passionate about education, then this could be an amazing money-maker for you!
You could write about stuff like:
- The best colleges in the U.S.
- The best bang for your buck when it comes to colleges and degrees
- How to get scholarships and avoid debt (my personal favorite ;))
- The top schools in each state (with the highest job placement after graduation)
4) Web Hosting
My personal favorite – web hosting! I firmly believe that everyone should have a blog – and it doesn’t even have to be a money maker. Use your blog as:
- a diary
- an escape from reality
- a way to learn about new things
- or, a wicked awesome money making machine (I couldn’t help myself – it needed a mention)
Web hosts have a hard time reaching out to people directly, so they depend on other websites that help new bloggers get started. On average, they pay out nearly $32 per click to get the word out about their services. This translates pretty well to the site that focuses on the topic of web hosting!
People are making money with their blogs every single day, so why not you? Heck, what if you earned just $1,000 over the course of next year – that’s $1,000 more than if you would have done nothing!!

This camp is pretty interesting, and it’s high on the list of top paying blog topics. If you get your jollies from trading and investing in your down-time, then this could be the money-maker of your dreams.
You could easily earn some dollars via Google Adsense (since companies like this pay $33+ per click), but you could also make some additional income by promoting a particular trading platform (like eTrade, TradeKing, or Fidelity – personally, I love investing with Wealthsimple and I promote them any chance I get!). Sites like this will pay your for every direct referral you send their way.
Calling all IT nerds (I mean…professionals)! This could be your chance to make some serious coin with your shortcut and coding knowledge. Well, let’s say some more serious coin – you already make bank at your day job most likely, but why not rake in some more while you can?
As the farmers love to say, “Keep making hay while the sun’s shining!”
So anyway, back to the point. Your site could help people with:
- Programming (of all sorts – VBA, C++, Java, etc.)
- Basic Microsoft programs
- And…you probably have more ideas than I do on this one….so I’ll just stop 😉
The above tips could generate $17 per click (half of the $35 that a company would pay) with Adsense, but you could take it so much farther than this!
You could create helpful PDF guides, make YouTube videos, or create an entire book around your knowledge (which you could of course sell on your site). The possibilities in this sector are basically endless.
For starters, we all know that the health and fitness industries are booming (and have been since the 1960’s…), so there’s plenty of opportunities to make some bucks through this medium.
But, there’s a new sector that’s coming on strong as well (thank you baby-boomers! ;)) – it’s the rehab/treatment market. There are more surgeries and rehab assignments now than there ever have been. If you have a passion to get people back on their feet (literally) after an injury, then why not start a $24 blog about it? Heck, you could earn more than that with a couple clicks on a Google Adsense ad!
8) Money/Personal Finance
Ahhh my first love (before my wife and daughter came along that is…) – personal finance!
When I first started writing about finance, I just wanted to express my views in print and maybe get a few comments back from one or two readers. Who would have guessed that 6 years later I’d have 1,500 email subscribers and over 1,000 Facebook friends! Not to mention the $100,000 that I’ve made through blogging and other side-hustles. It’s been crazy!
I can tell you first hand that making money with a finance blog is certainly possible, and if it’s your love then why not give it a go?!
9) Personal Development
When you’re in the car, how often do you find yourself listening to Zig Ziglar, Jim Rohn, or Tony Robbins instead of Beyonce? Do you love getting pumped up by inspirational speakers and pumping others up as well? Then maybe it’s time you touch thousands of lives with a personal development blog!
So how do you make money with personal development blog? Typically, it’s not through CPC ads like Google Adsense. It’s with book sales and promoting tickets to live events (or putting on your own!).
It’s not quite as easy to make money in this arena, but it can definitely be done!
There are so many people out there that want to start their own business, but they have no idea what steps to take to be successful. If you’ve fought your way through the muck of your own start-up company and want to help others become successful, then why not start a blog about business?
You’ll earn money through clickable ads, and you can become an affiliate for tons of other sites that will help your readers become successful!

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.
