My June 2017 Blog Income Report

Whoa. June is over already? Time flies when you’re having fun! And let me tell you, blogging has been incredibly fun lately.

Two of my posts have been extremely popular in the personal finance world and continue to drive crazy traffic to my site:

And, as if that weren’t enough, I was featured on CNBC and Yahoo! Finance for my debt payoff story!

The blogging life is good. It’s easy to see why I recommend blogging to all my friends, right??

You might not realize it, but you can:

My June 2017 Blog Income Report

Put simply, I had another great income month. Whenever I exceed $1,000 with this little side-gig of mine, I consider it a win. so this month…was a win. 🙂

The History of My Blog Income

I’ve been tracking my income since October, 2016. The first month I started this income tracker, I actually earned less than $300! Now, I’ve upped my game a bit and developed an income that’s consistently been $700 or more.

I’m hoping that my income continues to climb, but even if it doesn’t I’ll never stop writing! Why? Because I friggin’ love it!

Here’s a record of my income so far:

And in June, my income was $1,190.60!

So how did I do it? Let’s dig into it!

Pay Per Click Ads

I have a few different pay per click ads on my website – Google Adsense,, and MyFinance. These ad placements recommend various products that are related either to the content that you’re reading, or products that you’ve looked at recently. When you click on an ad, I get paid. It’s pretty simple, and it’s a nice little money maker for this site.

Let’s see how each of them performed last month!

Google Adsense = $20.09

Traffic was down this past month since I didn’t have the CNBC or Yahoo visitors anymore, but the Adsense banner on my site still produced a little something. $20.09 – it’s not much, but it’s something! If I want this to improve, then I guess I’ll just have to write better articles! Ads = $10.47

This one didn’t shock me as it’s usually half the amount of my Adsense earnings. This past month was no different. I think I’m going to have to shake things up pretty soon if I want to improve these earnings. Stay tuned….

MyFinance = $145.04

I am still loving the “MyFinance” banners. They’re super helpful for my readers, they’re not spammy whatsoever, and they produce a very nice income each month! This past month, I had a few great spikes (ie. sign-ups) that propelled my earnings to $145.04. Not too shabby if you ask me!!

Affiliate Marketing

Do you realize that there are quite a few blogs out there that earn a six-figure income each year?? And there are some that even earn $100k plus per MONTH?? (achhmmmm Michelle from Making Sense of Cents).

They do this primarily by referring their readers to quality products that then pay them a kick-back for the recommendation. These kick-backs are generated from affiliate sales and they are by far the best way to earn a lasting income with a website.

So how is it that some bloggers earn so much just through this method of referrals?

  1. Their readers trust their recommendations
  2. Their writing is interesting enough to attract a TON of eyeballs

I’m getting there. It’s a bit slow, but I’m for sure moving in the right direction!

Check out my affiliate earnings below!

iPage Affiliate Income = $105.00

My absolute best month was three sign-ups that generated $315 for me. This past month was still good though. I had one intelligent person start their own site, which meant I received a payout of $105. Sweet!

Have you heard of iPage? Have you ever thought about starting your own website?

I believe wholeheartedly that:

  1. iPage is an amazing, inexpensive webhost, and
  2. Anyone can earn an income with their own website

So why aren’t more people starting their own websites and giving it a shot?? I have absolutely no idea. It baffles me a little. But I’m so glad to see that at least one site was started last month because of my prompting!

Since sign-ups can fluctuate pretty severely from month to month, I decided to also track clicks through my affiliate iPage link:

  • October – 142 clicks, $105.00
  • November – 126 clicks, $0.00
  • December – 158 clicks, $210.00
  • January – 176 clicks, $0.00 (well, $65 with a BlueHost conversion)
  • February – 193 clicks, $0.00
  • March — 233 clicks, $0.00
  • April – 220 clicks, $315.00
  • May – 313 clicks, $105.00
  • June – 260 clicks, $105.00

With the summer months upon us, I think people are getting pre-occupied and to be quite honest, I got a little lazy there for a while myself. It’s time to kick it into gear again and get those clicks up to 350 and beyond!!

Motif Investing Affiliate Income = $0.00

I started investing with Motif a little over a year ago. The transaction was simple, my investment was exactly what I was looking for, and I’ve never noticed any pesky fees that often come with investing. Put simply, it’s been awesome.

Sign up with Motif Investing today.

Since I liked Motif so much, I decided, “Why not become an affiliate?” After all, I’m basically promoting them to all my friends all the time anyway. I may as well get paid a little bit for my recommendations.

I love recommending them, but unfortunately, people decided it wasn’t all that important to invest this past month. I received no sign-ups. Bummer.

I sure hope this changes in July! Don’t let this fabulous company slip through your fingers again! It’s time to invest your money!

Unfortunately, I had no sign-ups in June, but I still keep recommending this option to all of my friends and family.

Writing/Speaking = $0

In March, I banked $1,000 for two speaking gigs that I did for a local company. I had the time of my life, got paid a fair wage, and made a clear impact on people’s lives.

I can’t wait to speak again, but opportunities like this aren’t exactly knocking at my door every month. They’ll be more prevalent in the future, but for June, the earnings were zero, and that’s okay.

Direct Ads = $910

I probably turned away at least 20 direct ad offers on my site this past month and said yes to about 8. They were all quality articles that benefited my readers and put money into my pocket. Sounds like a win-win to me!

I still try to keep these ads to a minimum though since they’re often not written in my voice and may distract the readers away from what’s truly important – getting out of debt and kicking butt in the future!

Total Website Earnings

In total, this blog earned $1,190.60 in June of 2017.

A little too much of it came from direct ads, but I still made more than $280 on affiliate ads and click ads on their own, and that’s not too shabby either! In the next couple of months, I want to see that $280 turn into $1,000 and the $900 turn into $200. THAT would be the ideal scenario!

Income Reports Money

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.

  1. $1k/ month is excellent! Keep it up. Do you have an annual goal as well? I apologize if I missed it.

    • I hesitate to make a goal since 1) family comes first and 2) I don’t want to be so money driven that I lose sight of my readers. Maybe I’ll have to make a goal to earn $XX, while still doing Y and Z… or something. Good thoughts!

  2. If you’re interested in increasing ad revenue, drop me a note. I may have an idea for you.

    • Well of course I’ll drop you note! Coming in 3…2…1… 😉

  3. Nice income from MyFinance. I just integrated it into my site. I like it’s placement and lake of SPAMMY ads. Much less intrusive than AdSense, and it loads faster.

    • Sweet! Yeah, I highly recommend them. They’ve been awesome!

  4. Nice month, $1,000 from (more or less) passive income is fantastic.

I’ve been liking MyFinance as well – simple and seems to pay out well. Thanks again for hooking me up with them Derek.

    • Sure! Glad they’re working out for you too, Erik!

  5. Nice job that’s great! On the direct ads do you have people reaching out or do you ask any specific companies?

    Thanks man

    • For the most part, agents reach out to me. I ignore a lot of them because I don’t want to spam up my site. Hey, maybe I can send some of them your way if you’re interested!

      • Yea if you have any that would be helpful. Don’t want to spam the site but looking at options for what is out there. Thanks!!
