You know how you work and work and work, and your career seems to be going nowhere? But then, seemingly out of nowhere, good things start to happen. Little by little you gain traction again, then you actually start to get a little speed going, and then you hit the downhill! Life is good, work is fun and easy, and you’re making bank.
I think (at least I hope) I just reached the downhill run with my web income. It’s been almost 8 years in the making, but it might finally be here.
March 2018 Blog Income Report – Up 200% From February??!!
You know how I’m always encouraging you to start your own blog? This post is the epitome as to why. There’s tons of money to be made out there, and if you have something even remotely valid to say and have some passion behind it, then I believe you could make some coin…and perhaps a LOT of coin.
I’ve been tracking my income since October, 2016. I don’t report my earnings just to show off or to virtually wave around my *bling*.
I post these income reports for two main reasons:
- It’s a direct measure of how much I’m helping you the reader. If I’m not helping you succeed, then my income goes down. If you’re rockin’ it and getting out of debt and growing wealthy, then you’ll tell your friends, my readership base will rise, and so will my income.
- I want to show you what’s possible so you can succeed with your own blog. If you see that I made $1,000 last month (you know, just regular old Derek from West Michigan), then you should believe that you can do it too.
Here’s a look at my earnings each month since I started these reports:
- Oct 2016 Income: $293.04
- Nov 2016 Income: $589.24
- Dec 2016 Income: $1,085.98
- Jan 2017 Income: $486.76
- Feb 2017 Income: $643.34
- March 2017 Income: $1,457.14
- April 2017 Income: $752.21
- May 2017 Income: $1,300.20
- June 2017 Income: $1,190.60
- July 2017 Income: $1,040.15
- August 2017 Income: $932.36
- September 2017 Income: $1,046.27
- October 2017 Income: $1,054.20
- November 2017 Income: $1,517.68
- December 2017 Income: $780.56
- January 2018 Income: $1,582.55
- February 2018 Income: $1,573.66
March is (I hope) the beginning of the downhill run…
I’m up over 200% vs. last month! How the heck did I do this?? Read on my friend, I’ll tell you all about it.
How My March Income Spiked 200% vs. February
You know I’ve been working on improving my traffic for quite a while, right? I improved the look of my site, I’m writing better, more comprehensive articles, and I’m focusing more on SEO. Well it’s all paying off (and in more ways than one!)!
About a year ago, my blog traffic hovered between 12,000 and 15,000 sessions per month. It was okay, but I knew that I needed more viewers to take me to the next level. What that level was and what it would pay, I really had no idea. But, I needed more readers so that’s what I set out to get.
1) My switch to Mediavine
By January 2018, I had my traffic up to 25,000 sessions a month, which meant that I could be considered by one of the top Ad networks out there, Mediavine. They graciously accepted me into their inner circle and I started earning money with them on February 21st. By the end of February (so 7 days later), I had already earned more with Mediavine in that week than I typically earned with MyFinance and Adsense combined in a month!! I knew this switch was going to be good, but I didn’t quite know how good.
2) I started staff writing for some well-known sites
When I was busy writing better articles trying to attract new readers, I didn’t really consider that some more prominent sites would take notice and offer to pay me substantial amounts of money to have me write for them. Even with my busy schedule, I accepted because I simply didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity.
3) My affiliate marketing skills are improving
I’m not quite there yet, but I am doing better with my affiliate marketing. I believe in the products I’m selling and I get a rush every time someone signs up for the products I recommend — 1) because I know their lives will be better off because of them, and 2) because I earn some money for doing a good thing. It feels good!
4) I’ve done a better job putting myself out there
Over the past 2-3 months, I’ve really been doing my best to hit the forums, help others, and build up my network of fellow influencers. It’s been fun, but it’s also leading to more social media shares, more page visits, and more collaborative ideas.
Diving Into the Actual Dollars and Cents of March 2018
So what did all this action do for my online income? Where did I actually earn the money? Here’s the breakdown:
Mediavine – $1,705.05 – BOOM! That alone was more than I earned in total in February. Thank you, Mediavine! First of all, yes they’re awesome, but I did have a little help with traffic. Someone, somewhere, shared my “How Much Should You Spend on That?” post from a couple years back and it just took off. Over the course of 3 days, I had 30,000 views on my site (if only that could be the norm, right?)! So, that definitely helped, but even without it, Mediavine still would have kicked butt and earned me $500+.
iPage Blog Hosting – $105 – One sign-up in March. Congrats for starting your own blog!! That’s always so exciting, I love it!!
Weathsimple Investing – $164.20 – Three investments made during the month, which is awesome! Way to grab hold of your future and own it, people!
Bill Cutterz – $0
The Stay-At-Home Mom Blueprint – $8.00 – Four book sales in March. I’m glad these people were able to buy the book before it was “taken off the shelves” sort of speak. You can’t get it now. Sorry for those of you who waited too long!
Like I said, I started writing for some other prominent blogs. I don’t really want to divulge what they’re paying (in case they don’t want others to know), so I won’t name them and I won’t tell you how much they’re paying me per article. BUT, let me just tell you that my hourly wage is WAY more than my full-time job. Crazy to think about, but it’s the truth. In March, I earned $900. Love it.
I love one-on-one sessions. I wish I could do more of them. Maybe someday.
Last month, I sat down and laid out a plan for one individual to get back on track with his finances. A few weeks later, we sat down again. I assumed that I would have to repeat half of what I told him before, but nope…he showed me that he was rocking it in all areas, shook my hand, and I’m sure he’s still rockin’ his new budget today. I earned $75 and changed a man’s life. Now that’s good stuff.
As usual, companies always email me, wanting me to feature them on my site. Most times I don’t, sometimes I do (only if it helps you, my faithful readers). Last month, I accepted 5 posts and earned $655.
March 2018 Blog Income Report – Now THAT’S What I Call Multiple Streams of Income!
In March, my LifeAndMyFinances income came from seven different sources. This is fantastic!! And, from those 7 different sources, I earned a total of $3,612.25.
Sheesh…I still can’t quite believe that.
In one month, I earned enough with this site to buy a pretty decent car!! That’s fricken incredible!
And I just can’t help but ask the question again. Why haven’t you started a blog? What’s your excuse for NOT earning $3,600? Sure, it’s not easy, but it’s possible! So why not give it a shot? Just click this link, sign up with iPage for $24, and contact me if you have any questions. Seriously. I want to see your win, and I can’t wait for you to tell me that you started your very own blog.
My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.
