The Day 3 Prize – “Automatic Millionaire”
This book has a special place in my heart actually. And the only way I can explain it is to take you back…
(*cloudy haze….going back in time approximately 5 years*)
My wife and I were pregnant with our first child and we decided to take one last ditch vacation to enjoy each other before the baby took over our lives forever (FYI, that was a true forecast – we now have two kiddos and they absolutely took over our lives ;)).
We booked a cabin in one of the Tennessee State Parks (highly recommend this by the way). The drive was approximately 8 hours from our homestead in Michigan, so I figured what the heck, I’ll get an audio book. Maybe Liz will be up for a listen at some point during the drive.
Of course, being the personal finance guy that I am, I grabbed David Bach’s “Automatic Millionaire”. Lol!
Honestly, it was a pretty ballsy choice considering my wife was 7 months pregnant and wasn’t necessarily a lover of finance like I am. Not to mention the fact that her mood was shifting through the full gambit of emotions every 30 seconds or so…
Anyway, the trip started, we chatted for a bit and then things went quiet for a few minutes. I offered up my idea….and I didn’t get a death stare or anything! In fact, she was up for it!
In goes the disc and here comes the voice of Mr. Bach. In all honesty, we almost turned it off after the first 30 seconds because it sounded like a bad sales-pitch that was going to lead us into a timeshare purchase or something. But needless to say, we pressed on!
By the time the audio ended, Liz was suggesting that we…
- increase our 401k contributions,
- contribute to our Health Savings Account,
- and even start looking into a 529 plan for our future kiddo’s college education.
BOOM! Thanks David Bach! You killed it!
The Winner of This Special Book
I’m hoping that the winner of this book will enjoy the book as much as Liz and I did. The messaging could very well change your life!
And now, it’s time for the drawing.

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.
