If you have daycare experience or just enjoy being around children, babysitting is a viable option to make some money. You can even consider being a full-time nanny and signing up on sites like care.com. It would help if you are:
- CPR & first aid certified
- patient, kind, and friendly
You should also have a clean criminal record. Along with these minor requirements, if you want to be considered for more childcare positions, I would definitely consider getting more certifications under your belt. They have options for you to become live-in nannies and many good babysitters can cook and do light housework. If you’re really serious about doing this as a side-hustle, take all of this into consideration.
Do you enjoy teaching people on various subjects or do you have teaching skills that go to waste when school isn’t in session? Well, no problem! Be a tutor. You can set up a very lucrative side hustle as a tutor and make it a business if you’d like. I find this great because you control the number of people you tutor during a given period as well as what you tutor.
You can go to sites like:
And yes, these are just a few of the many sites out there that you can use to search for tutoring positions and put yourself out there. You can even apply for tutoring jobs online at care.com (on top of being a babysitter!) Cool, right?! If you want, you should consider going to your old high school (I did) to see if they still have tutoring positions available. You can even reach out to old professors and teachers to see if they have any specific students who may need assistance. If this is one of your top side hustle ideas, there are many ways to do it. The key is just to DO IT.
I personally enjoy writing! If you are anything like me and just genuinely like to write, you should consider freelance writing for your top side hustle idea.
- how, and
- where you work.
These are huge perks.
I get to spend time with my boys, write a blog piece for others or myself, & drink a nice cup of tea. It’s ideal. Plus, I have a peaceful set up in my home to do it, however, I’m in the market for a new home with dedicated office space for all my work.
If you’re into writing and want to choose a specific niche, you can reach out to certain blogs you really like reading and see if they’re looking for writers. You can also check out different blogs that give in-depth information about sites that pay $50 or more for your writing.
If you don’t care how much the pay is, that’s fine too. There are many sites out there that still pay, it’s just less than that (I don’t like going under $50 because it’s not worth the time that you’ll put into writing a worthwhile piece.)
My personal favorite topics to write pieces on, whether it be for my own blog or on others, include:
- finance/building wealth/business/insurance
- life as a mom and single parent
- difficulties of running a business and everything that comes with being an entrepreneur
- eating healthier
Those are just a few of the topics I’m really big on. So think about things you’d love to write about all day. Something you just want to teach others about. Then, go for it in your writing. It’s one of the best side hustle ideas that I’d recommend it to anyone.
So you like doing hair?
Great! You can get paid for that too.
If you already have a full-time job and want to do this a side hustle, you can definitely make it happen. Set your hours around when you get out of work.
Don’t work on the weekends?
Cool, do some hair.
This can be super lucrative and there are many ways that you can make this work for you. You can do tutorials on how to style hair as well.
Do you specialize in extensions or braids?
Well, let people know what type of hair you use and see if you can partner with the supplier to make money when people purchase the hair that you suggested.
You can even get so big that you may be able to start your own hair salon! If that’s not your thing and you want to keep it as a side hustle, you can do that too.

This is another great side hustle idea for 2021.
I actually started a pretty successful business out of this (if you’re looking for a social media manager, I’m looking for a couple more clients for this month!) Keep in mind, you don’t have to make this a business, you can strictly keep it as a side hustle.
I love this as a side hustle because it can be done from anywhere.
If you’re good at handling social media and don’t mind building someone else’s content or business, this can be great for you. I get to plan, edit, & market everything for social media accounts and I find it super interesting because I still get to write and do research. (Yes, you do need to research when it comes to social media to make sure you’re taking care of your clients properly within their niche.)
If this sounds like something you would enjoy, look into becoming a social media manager.
6. Virtual Assistant
Becoming a virtual assistant was one of the first real side hustles I had after having my first son. I was looking for extra cash and this provided just that. You can find virtual assistant jobs through:
That’s just some of the big ones. I personally found my start by reading through another blog (that’s actually how I ended up working for this blog!).
A virtual assistant can be helpful for:
- email management/marketing
- social media
- general secretarial duties
- customer service
- podcast necessities
You name it, a virtual assistant can handle it.
These are just a few of the things that I’ve gotten to handle within the last 6 months in my business and it’s been great. The only downside (for me) is that it took me away from my writing. However, I still love the opportunity to be able to help people in so many great ways with such a lucrative side hustle as this.
FYI, if you’re reading this and find yourself in need of a virtual assistant, this is one of my first passions so I’d love to help!

If you’re looking for a way to help out in the grocery business, you can start delivering groceries. You can make some real money doing this as a side hustle. The best part is setting your own hours and working on your time.
You can find work for grocery delivery through:
It’s fun and it’s a great way to get out of the house and help someone else.
8. Amazon Driver
Another one of the optional side hustle ideas to consider is becoming an Amazon driver.
You have 2 different options for becoming an Amazon driver. You can either:
As a Flex driver, you have the opportunity to set your own hours so you’re in more control. You also have the opportunity to make more through tips and instant offers. Also, you’re responsible for your vehicle when it comes to fuel. You’re essentially your own boss so you’re working out of your own vehicle.
In contrast, as a delivery driver with DSPs, it’s more of a full-time job so even though you can do it as a second job, you’ll need to pull in at least 40 hours each week but the vehicle is provided for you.
9. Makeup Artist
If you’re into makeup or just love to do glam for yourself and others, maybe becoming a makeup artist on the side would be a great opportunity for you.
This is especially good for those who are super artsy and creative because as you know, makeup is DEFINITELY art.
When it comes to doing makeup as a side hustle, practice makes perfect. Check with family and friends to get your practice on, try it out on yourself, market yourself online, and take on the jobs that you can to build up your recognition as a makeup artist.

Have you ever wondered how you can make money using your social media?
Better yet, do you know that this is actually a very lucrative side hustle that people pursue?
If you can grow your following to at least 6k-10k, you can really bring in some bank as a social media influencer.
If you’re trying to make influencing a full-time job, you can become a micro-influencer if you can obtain at least 10k-100k followers. Your money mainly comes from #ads. Sponsored posts and advertising can bring in hundreds of dollars.
Seeing as though many influencers can bring in as much as $30k+ annually, there’s no wonder why this is one of the most lucrative ways to bring in money from a side hustle.
You can also take your influence even further by selling your own line of clothing, makeup, cookbooks, etc. So far, the highest-ranking influencer is Kylie Jenner, who gets $1.2 million for every sponsored Instagram post she does according to BBC.
But hey, it’s definitely doable.
Check out influencers such as:
- Ariana Grande,
- Jayda Cheaves,
- Arone Cross, and
- Christiano Ronaldo.
11. Travel Planner
As an independent travel planner, you control the hours you work and who you help. Not only do you get to travel and make money on your own while helping others, but you also get super great perks of your own.
The perks include discounts on:
- hotel stays
- car rentals
Super great discounts if you’re into travel.
I’ve been considering trying this out as a side hustle because I really love travel, but I love a great discount when traveling even more.
Make sure to keep in mind that even though you don’t need specific experience, most people are more comfortable hiring someone they feel has at least some experience doing what they do…even if you are a travel agent.
People are coming to you for your travel expertise and advice. So, if you’re an avid traveler and just want to help others travel the country, or the world, like yourself, you might want to consider this side hustle idea!
If you do choose this idea, make sure to check out some host agencies that can help you as an independent travel planner. It could be super helpful down the line with your new venture.
12. Do Chores for Others
Doing chores for others (as a side hustle idea in 2021) may sound weird but it’s a great way to be of service to others while you make money.
ne of the best sites I’ve found so far that allow you to do chores for others is TaskRabbit.
You can get help with things like:
That’s just to name a few of the tasks that can get handled through the site. People sign up to offer their services and others hire them to get it done.
If you only want to work this on your days off or when you get off work, it’s super doable.
The life of a freelance editor isn’t bad at all, especially if you’re considering this as a side hustle idea. The salary for this particular line of work is around $60k-$71k. That’s if you want to do this as a full-time freelance editor.
However, you can bring in at least $30k as a freelance blog editor if you choose to use this as your side hustle.
The short time I spent as a blog editor was super awesome and you can learn so much while working your own hours and staying in charge of how much money you bring in. If you’re a reader and want to put those skills to use, this is a great side hustle for you.
14. Resume Writer
If you enjoy writing resumes for people, whether it be for family, friends, or other people you know, this might be something to consider doing as a high paying side gig idea.
It’s certainly not for everybody, but for those who really enjoy doing it, it can be super lucrative.
You can also turn it into a great full-time job for yourself. It allows you to work for yourself and do what you love for others (and the money definitely doesn’t hurt!)
15. Nail Artist
Being a nail artist can be quite lucrative as one of the best side hustle ideas for you.
It’s even better because you can add other side jobs alongside your nail artistry such as:
- selling jewelry
- doing lashes/eyebrows
- henna services
- create nail gift baskets
If you start to get serious about it as a full-time job and you’re super good at it, you may even want to consider teaching classes. The best thing I’ve found about nail technicians is that each one is unique, right down to their nail designs. If this is really something you’re interested in, you can definitely make it something worthwhile and use your creativity. Most of all, just be yourself!
If you enjoy taking pictures and wouldn’t mind doing it for others, then why not get paid to do it? I mean, you’re already taking these fabulous pictures so offer to take them for others.
Whether it be for a:
- baby shower
…any big event would be great.
If you’re looking for a way to really get your name out there, start off doing a couple for free so people can see your skills. Word of mouth is always a great marketing technique when you’re just getting your foot in the door. It truly is a fabulous side hustle idea. Just get started and go for it!
17. Sell Products Online
Thinking of selling products online as one of your side hustle ideas? Well, you’d be like quite a few others who have taken to this idea and are doing it quite successfully. The goal is to find something that people actually need (or don’t know they need until you offer it) and sell.
Yes, there’s definitely more to it, like you should know your market and how you plan to reach them. If you are seriously considering selling products online, I’d definitely go that route. After all, how can you sell to someone if you don’t know who they are or what they want?
Sort of a shot in the dark if you ask me.
But, this is still a very lucrative way to make money. Especially if you’re one of those people who have a knack for the creation or some hidden ability to make things people might just love, this is a super cool and interesting way to make some side income.
Drop-Shipping with Shopify and Spocket
Derek has spent quite a bit of time going back and forth with a sales rep for Spocket, an app for Shopify (a simple ecommerce plug-and-play platform). The whole concept is actually pretty simple (and actually, kind of exciting!).
- You set up products on your Shopify page with Spocket (and maybe even some of your own product if you want), and
- When people order the Spocket product, it simply drop-ships straight from the manufacturer to the customer.
- You don’t have to do anything other than lead customers to your store!
Some people are horrible marketers and earn no money.
Others figure out how to drive traffic and convert all those eyeballs into sales, and they make solid money (the sky is the limit!).
Your earnings are really up to you, but the concept is super cool and could turn into one of the best side hustle ideas you’ve every had!
18. Rent Out Your Home
You can rent out your home to make a little extra cash every month.
- If you live in places near water or where big events occur, you can definitely bring in a lot of money.
- Or, if you don’t want to rent out your whole house, you can rent out space in your house for tourists.
Whichever you prefer really, but both ways are very lucrative. And Airbnb can really make it easy for you to become a host.
Have a car but you rarely use it?
Did you know that your car could be a great little moneymaker for ya?
Well, if you didn’t know, I’m here to tell you. You can rent out your car through a site called Turo. Super cool, super easy.
- You just have to make sure you some insurance on your vehicle.
- They’ll also need to see photos of your vehicle and get the license plate number.
- Let them know the car availability (along with a little other basic info)
- And boom, your car is on the market to be used by others. Your customers will come to you so you don’t have to do so much legwork.
20. Car Washing/Detailing
If you have a keen eye for detail when it comes to cars, maybe car washing or a detailing service would be best as one of your side hustle ideas.
I know quite a few guys who are super into cars and car washing has done them a great service. Personally, I know many women who enjoy a nice clean car as well (I’m one of them) so don’t think this is just a macho guy business. If this is something you’re interested in, you may want to look into the start-up costs of a mobile detailing business.
21. Clean Homes
Like tidying things up?
Ever thought about cleaning homes?
Well, if you don’t mind cleaning other peoples’ homes and making sure they have a tidy place to live in, this is a great opportunity for you.
You can show off your cleaning skills and make some extra money on the side (typically $25+ per hour!).
So, I used to think this could not possibly be a thing. I never understood how could you benefit from training someone else’s pet, and how does the other person really benefit since the pet wouldn’t understand who the master really is?
I only thought this because I grew up with pets (dogs to be exact), and I never had to train any of them, my grandfather did all of that for us. So when I found out you could really train pets for a living, I was so amazed!
People will really pay you to train their pets because:
- they don’t have the time, or
- they lack the patience…
…amongst other reasons, of course.
So if you’re an animal person and just have a knack for training pets, this side hustle idea is for you.
And for those of us who like paying someone to train our pets, you never have to worry about the animal understanding whose in charge. That’s the purpose of having them trained and having certain commands for them.

23. House Sitting
If you’re looking for one of the side hustle ideas that can be super laid back, this is one of them. When house sitting, you basically tend to the person’s house.
A house sitter tends to:
- Keep the house tidy
- check the mail
- the garden
- light maintenance duty
- switch the lights on and off
You’re pretty much there to ensure the home remains occupied while the owners are gone. Even though you may be gone, depending on the time-frame, you don’t want people thinking you’re gone for too long. So a house sitter can sometimes be a necessity. This is why this is such a great opportunity to make some extra income.
24. Deliver Takeout Food
You can deliver takeout food for quite a few places, including:
- Outback Steakhouse
- Panera Bread
- Roma Pizza
- Olive Garden
That’s just to name a few. With everything that has been going on, more places have started to invest in their delivery services to offer more options to consumers. This is good news for those looking for side hustle ideas to bring in some extra cash!
Are you fine with working outside and tending to your yard?
What about getting paid to take care of someone else’s?
Yes, that’s a thing AND you can get paid good money to do it. If you’re looking to get started as a groundskeeper (the technical name for a person maintaining yards), you could look for side jobs or start a groundskeeping business on the side.
It’s a great way to get out there and make some money just tending to the yard.
26. Drive for Uber/Lyft
Driving for Uber or Lyft can definitely is definitely one of the more decent side gig ideas.
- You pick your schedule so you decide when and if you work.
- How much time you put into determines how much money you stand to make.
So download the Uber or Lyft (or both) driver apps and apply to be a driver today and you could be making some extra money in no time!
So first, did you know that you can make good money as a transcriber, even if it’s as a side hustle?
Also, did you know that transcribing is in high demand?
Now, for those who don’t know what a transcriber does, they provide written versions of audio/video messages. Yep, that’s right. Those people you see in meetings that are writing everything down from the meeting, transcribers!
If you’re a writer looking for extra work, transcribing might be something to look into as a profitable side gig.
They make between $21k-$58k, depending on where you find work, which isn’t too bad for a side hustle. The easiest way that I’d recommend becoming a transcriber (outside of applying for other jobs, of course) is via Scribie.
Another one of the great side hustle ideas to consider is becoming a freelance copywriter, especially if you’re interested in writing.
I tell many people about this one in particular since it is not only a great writing gig, but it’s also great for those in marketing. There are no huge requirements to becoming a copywriter but if you enjoy creative writing, you should give this a try.
Also, considering the salary for a freelance copywriter is around $65k, that’s not a bad hustle to go into.
29. Sell Food
Are you into cooking and like to see people smile when they taste your food?
Well, selling food might be a great way for you to get your food out of the kitchen and straight to the public. Yep, you can make and sell food right from your home. Just make sure you’re registered with your state BEFORE going into business.
You can use social media and word of mouth to really get yourself out there.
Another great thing about this side hustle idea is that you can do this in your own time! So if this sounds like something you’re interested in, make sure to do your research, get a budget in order, and GET COOKING!

30. Become a Personal/Private Chef
If you genuinely love cooking and entertaining people, you can become a personal/private chef.
The biggest difference between the two is that while one works for many clients, the other has only one it tends to. Depending on how you want to spend your time, you can choose to travel with one client or travel to countless ones that will employ you as their personal chef.
Whether you choose to be a private chef or a personal chef, you’ll want to work on those customer service skills and really brand yourself. That may include building a brand through social media and building up referrals for your culinary skills.
What you will really want to consider is the pay when making this a side hustle of choice.
As a personal chef, you may make anywhere from $34k – $65k, but you stand to make at least twice that amount as a private chef.
You just have to figure out which route you really want to put the time in for since being a private chef may take a considerable amount of your free time. You just have to choose what is best for you and your situation before you get cooking.
As a website tester, you have to remember that this may not be able to replace any full-time income you may be bringing in. However, it can definitely be a great side hustle.
There are many sites you can go through to become a website tester including:
There are also others to choose from.
With each one, you can make around $10-$25 for each website test. As side-hustle ideas go, this one isn’t so bad.
32. Teach a Skill
If you have a unique skill that you feel others might need or want to learn, try making a side hustle out of it!
You can teach anything from knitting to moonwalking (yes, people will pay you to teach them this) can get you paid. Even learning to code is a unique skill that people will pay good money to learn. You can choose to teach in person or teach online, which has become super popular with YouTube. You can even create courses to teach skills for people to learn! It’s all up to you.
If you like fast-paced work with a flexible schedule, this may be a lucrative side gig to consider.
If you’re simply going into this with the thought of making it a side hustle in order to build your main dream, that’s doable. The best way to get started bartending is by finding the style of bar that fits your personality so you can do well.
There are many different styles of bars including:
- cocktail joints
Once you find where you can thrive, go for it.
If you’ve got good people skills and can learn to anticipate the needs of your customer, this may be something for you to try out. Plus, the pay isn’t so bad as a side hustle since you can bring in lots of money from tips. But, understand this is not for you if you’re looking for something with a guaranteed steady income.
34. Web Designer
If you enjoy coding, creating, and designing web pages, then you should try web design as a side hustle.
Did you know that the average pay on Upwork for a web designer is around $74/hr?
You can help people create the website of their dreams in your spare time with this lucrative side hustle….but only if this is something you really are interested in. I say this because creating something aesthetically pleasing to not only you but the customer is super important in this field of choice.
35. Tax Preparer
Becoming a tax preparer can be very lucrative when it comes to the top side hustle ideas to consider.
It is a great way to supplement your income, be super flexible, and make some really good (and quick) money. I do it in my spare time for family and friends. It has been a great way to bring in some extra cash and it has helped me learn so much more about tax laws.
If you feel like you can take this on and be reliable since you’re dealing with people’s finances, I say go for it!
If you’ve got some accounting skills that can really help others but they are going unused, why not consider becoming a mobile or virtual bookkeeper?
It basically requires a diploma, math skills, and computer skills to market yourself as a virtual/mobile bookkeeper. The best thing about this is the flexibility of the job and the freedom to work with whom you choose.
You can also choose to get paid hourly or at a flat rate. Depending on where you are will determine how much money you make, but you stand to make a decent amount of money.
37. Graphic Designer
Are you good at creating appealing visuals, especially visuals that can captivate clientele? Well, you should consider graphic design.
You can get paid very well, between $28k-$69k, depending on where you live.
There are many things you can help create to help a business reach its customers, such as:
Anything that can be aesthetically appealing to the customer can really help a business (or other entrepreneurs) out. So if you feel you are super creative and great at working with online software to help inspire others to do business with you, go for it!
38. Sell to Secondhand Stores
Yep, anything that you don’t want or can’t fit anymore and is still in good condition, sell it. Consignment stores are great at taking those things and turning them into something great for someone else.
You can sell anything from…
- clothes and shoes to
- furniture and jewelry.
Even though you don’t want it, that doesn’t mean someone else can’t find some joy in it. Plus, it’s a great way to bring in extra money as a side hustle. Something to really consider.
If you’re an expert at emailing and everything that comes with it, this is for you. You’re in charge of taking care of emails and making sure emails go out for marketing a business and its products. If you can manage to take care of the automation and consistency that’s going to come along with being an email marketing assistant, this is definitely a hustle to consider.
40. Write Stories
If you like to write and truly enjoy spending some long hours getting it done, then consider writing stories.
It can be fun to put your imagination to the test and just spend some quality time with your coffee/tea, your laptop, and a comfortable place to write it out. If you’re looking to make money from writing your stories, try websites like:
They pay a nice amount ($500+) for your written stories. But keep in mind, there are so many sites out there that pay you for your writing. If you’re a writer, this is jyet another way to make some extra cash.
41. Sell Services on Fiverr
Do you design shoes & websites?
Critique blogs or websites?
Offer resume writing services?
Or, maybe you write spectacular headlines?
Well, whatever service you offer you can definitely sell it on fiverr for a profit. This can be a huge deal when you’re looking for side hustle ideas to help you out financially.
42. Take Surveys
If you’re interested in doing a tiny bit of work and getting some quick cash for things you do daily, consider taking surveys. You won’t make much money, and I’d honestly recommend nearly all of the other side hustles before starting this one, but if you want to make $5-$10 here and there for mindless activity, then that’s what this will get you.
All of the above companies offer ways to make some quick money with their surveys as long as you follow the instructions. I prefer payment through PayPal since it’s super easy. It may not be much when you first get started but the little money here and there will definitely add up.
One of the good side hustle ideas to consider is online course creation if you have something that you can really see yourself teaching to others. This is especially good for teachers and coaches.
You can get started through websites such as:
And that’s not even all of them!
Each site is different so make sure to choose the online platform that best suits you and your business needs.
Whether it’s your first course or you’re looking to sell memberships or start an online school, there’s a platform for your needs. So do your research before starting an online course for money. You definitely want to have a plan.
If you’re a pretty quick reader and enjoy reading altogether, becoming a proofreader is something to consider for extra income. The best part about doing proofreading on the side is that it’s inexpensive to start and super flexible. Not a bad choice at all for those with kids or a super busy schedule but need to add some extra income.
45. App Tester
If you have some technical skills and possibly a little bit of QA (quality assurance) experience, this is one of the side hustle ideas you should consider.
I did it for a brief moment and it’s not bad, especially if you’re just trying to bring in a little bit of extra money. You even have the potential to make between $50k-$65k annually if you decide to take this on full-time.
Related: How to Become an App Tester
A mystery shopper would be something to consider doing in your spare time to make a little extra cash. Mystery shoppers get paid between $8-$10 for each shopping gig. It’s not the most lucrative side gig you’ll ever have, but it can be fun!
There are a few different ways to get paid as a mystery shopper:
- reimbursement with free items
- cash payment after the shopping experience is complete and reported
- cash & reimbursement (which should speak for itself)
If you like going shopping or out to eat or drink, not just for the items but for the experience, this may be something good for you to do. And get paid!
47. Teach a Language
Another one of the great side hustle ideas to consider is teaching a second language.
You can teach any language you are fluent in, such as:
- Mandarin Chinese
The list goes on!
The most common language spoken is English, so you could consider teaching English and become ESL (English as a Second Language) certified to really make your money.
If you do think of going the route of getting ESL certified, you could get certified through in-person or online classes. You just need at least 120 hours to get certified and you’re ready to go! You could even do it abroad, making it even more of a great experience.
Affiliate marketing is a pretty good way to make money (especially if you have a creative mind and a captivating personality!).
You are basically advertising for business/product creators and for each sale they make off of your ad, you get paid. Seems pretty simple right? Well, it certainly can be if you have the right following and influence on your social media.
The premise is pretty simple. The more people who buy the product through the affiliate, the more money for both ends. Something to look into if you’re into advertising for other businesses.
