I started this blog over six years ago, and it’s been a great money maker from the very beginning. I’ve had a ton fun writing for all my readers while getting paid for it, and now I feel like it’s time to teach others how to do it as well!

I’ve always been told that one of the best ways to teach is with real-world experiences. So I figured, “Why not show my readers how this blog earns money? That way, they could figure out how to earn money with their blogs as well!”

For all of you that are interested in starting a blog of your own, check out this awesome step-by-step resource I put together to help newbies get started: “How to Start a WordPress Blog For Just $24“.

My December 2016 Blog Income Report

Just like in November, I’m still writing quality content, and while my articles might not be getting 50,000 views like “How Much Should You Spend on That?“, they’re still getting plenty of attention. On average, I’m getting nearly 2x the amount of traffic that I was just a few months ago.

And, just like last month, that equates to BIGGER DOLLARS. Check it out!

December 2016 Blog Income Report

Pay Per Click Ads

On my main page, I host Google and Media.net ads. I don’t love that I have minimal control of these ads, so I place them at the lower left hand side of the page. Surprisingly enough though, they still yield a decent amount each month.

Google Adsense = $56.92

My typical earnings through Google are roughly $40 a month. Thanks to the decent traffic in December, I pocketed a little bit more! Thanks for the check, Google!

Media.net Ads = $59.06

Through October, it took me almost a year to earn $50 total with Media.net ads. November was crazy good compared to the prior months with $38.70 earned. And then in December, I actually earned more from Media.net than Google Adsense. $59.06.

Weird.

We’ll see if this continues into January. I sure hope so!

Affiliate Marketing

I still can’t help thinking about it. Michelle, from Making Sense of Cents, announced late last year that she was earning six figures with her blog….per month!

Seriously?

Yes, seriously. She shows you exactly how she did it in her blog post below.

My September 2016 Blog Income Report: $102,911

When I dug into the details, it turns out that she simply gets paid from companies she believes in and refers tons of traffic to, and then they kindly pay her a portion of the sales to say ‘thanks’. BOOM, that’s it! Well I can do THAT! Right??

Right. Below are the companies I love and can’t wait to refer my readers to each and every day.

iPage Affiliate Income = $210.00

iPage is a webhost for people to start their own blogs. They’re cheap, reliable, and you can easily make a great looking site in just 15 minutes or less. I’ve been using them for six years and recommend them in a heartbeat to everyone I meet.

In October, I had 142 clicks on my iPage affiliate link and one sale that netted me $105.

Then in November, I had only 126 clicks on the link and no sales that obviously netted me $0.

In December, I had some more success! 158 clicks and 2 sign-ups that earned a payout of $210.

Sure, it’s exciting to get that payment from iPage, but you know what’s even more thrilling?? Knowing that 3 people out there have started their dream because of me! They’re busying writing articles right now that are probably changing the world for the better. And THAT’s awesome!!

Motif Investing Affiliate Income = $0

Womp wommmm. Nobody signed up for Motif through my affiliate link this past month. Probably because I haven’t been actively talking about my trades… so that’s my fault.

If you haven’t heard of motifs, they are an amazing way to buy and sell stocks for cheap! PLUS, they’re still offering $150 for new traders! So get signed up, make some trades and earn some free money!

Valore Books Affiliate Income = $0

Valore Books is by far my favorite online bookstore. I saved so much money on textbooks back in my college years that I still head to this site for all my non-fiction reads as well. I often find used books for just $0.01!

Sadly though, no one seems to love this site quite as much as I do. I have zero affiliate earnings to date.

Writing

At this point, I have years’ worth of experience writing about money. So much so that I figure I can make $100 an article or more to do it for other sites. This would be cool and all, but I would much rather put all my attention into my own site and help people here. So for now….no earnings in writing and that’s okay.

Direct Ads

Companies occasionally reach out and ask me to review a product or mention their company specifically through my blog. I am very selective with these requests and only recommend products that I truly believe in. In the month of December, I earned $760 via direct ads. Woot woot!

Total Website Earnings

In total, this blog earned $1,085.98 in December of 2016. It’s not $100k, but you know what? It’s better than November, which was better than October, so THAT’s awesome! Let’s keep on climbing this ladder!

The Future of This Site

You know how you earn more money? You serve more people. If I want to earn more with this blog, I need to help more people achieve their goals and dreams.

This means:

  • More freebie tools to help you win with your budget (I added a couple more this past month — check out my Free Tools Page!)
  • Giveaways – I’m thinking about T-shirts, what do you think?
  • More helpful articles

Be sure to tell your friends about Life And My Finances, because there are some great things to come!

Thanks Friends! Can’t wait to share what I accomplish next month!
