It seems like 2012 went by faster than any other year I’ve experienced in my life, but I guess it feels like that every year. It’s 2013 now, and with the New Year comes a breadth of new credit card offers that are worth taking advantage of if any of your New Year’s resolutions involve
finance and credit. While I recommend never carrying a credit card balance if at all possible, there are times when you need the credit to make essential purchases. When you know you’re going to be making credit card purchases that you will not be able to pay off immediately, but will be able to pay off in the near future, you should consider applying for one of the many available 0% Intro APR on purchases credit cards. Many of these credit cards offer other great benefits as well, but since there are so many out there, I’ve done the research and ranked my three favorites.

Here are my picks for the best credit cards that offer a 0% Intro APR on purchases:

1, Discover it Card – The Discover it Card was just recently launched by Discover in early January of this year. The Discover it Card improves upon the recently retired Discover More card in that it is a great all around credit card. With the Discover it Card, cardholders receive 0% Intro APR on purchases for 14 months. In addition, that same 0% Intro APR period extends to balance transfers as well. The Discover it Card also does not charge an annual fee or any overlimit fees, foreign transaction fees, and phone payment fees. While the Discover it Card may sound great already, here’s the kicker: cardholders receive 5% cash back on rotating categories through the year such as restaurants, movies, gas, travel, and more, and 1% cash back on all other puchases.

2. Citi ThankYou Card – The Citi ThankYou Card is another great choice if you’re looking for a card that provides a 0% Introductory APR on purchases. With the Citi ThankYou card, cardholders receive a 0% Intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months. In addition, cardholders receive one ThankYou point for every dollar spent on any purchase, as well as an anniversary ThankYou points bonus at the
end of each calendar year. Citi places no limit on the amount of points one can earn, and does not require an annual fee. Citi ThankYou Points can be redeemed for virtually anything including clothing, consumer electronics, gift cards, cash, flights, hotel stays, and more.

3. Citi Simplicity Card – The Citi Simplicity card is my final choice for my list of the best credit card that offers a 0% Intro APR on purchases. With the Citi Simplicity Card, cardholders receive a 0% Intro APR on both purchases and balance transfers for a full 18 months, which is the longest 0% Intro APR period in the credit card industry. Although the Citi Simplicity Card does not offer any rewards points, Citi does not charge Simplicity cardholders any late fees or penalty fees. There also is no annual fee to use the Citi Simplicity card.

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.
