There are many ways to go green that can aid the environment as well as your pockets.

Sure, everyone wants to save some money. Did you know you can also save up some money while being eco-friendly? Sounds like a no-brainer, right? Well, you would be surprised at the number of ways there are for you to save a dollar and the environment. Based on my recent brainstorm, there are 8 ways to go green…all while saving money.

8 Simple Ways to Go Green While Saving Money

Maybe you have been looking for ways to save money while being environmentally friendly. Take a look at some of the ways to go green that can also help your pockets.

1) Start An Organic Garden to Go Green

Starting an organic garden can be one of the best ways to go green and save some extra cash. It can be super healthy for you as well. Gardening helps because you stop wasting money on constantly buying fruits and vegetables. It can really help cut down costs on your grocery bills.

Starting your own garden is great for a number of reasons, including:

  • Sustainability
  • Your choice of veggies and fruits to grow
  • Family-friendly

Herbs and spices tend to be very expensive so growing your own puts you at an advantage. What is truly great about organic gardening is that you can start where you are! So if you live in a house, an apartment, a condo, etc., just take a look at your space. You would be surprised what wonders you can do for the environment and your pockets even in a small space.

2) Switch to LED Lighting to Save Energy

Switching to LED lighting can help you go green and save money on your electricity bill. Light bulbs are normally one of the first places to check, among other things, when looking for ways to save on electricity. The LED lighting will last longer and can save more money over time. They are also a cheaper type of light bulb and will help save on energy because they conduct less heat than other light bulbs.

It is a great decision to make when you just start to go green and won’t break the bank.

3) Maintain Appliances for Energy Efficiency

Home appliances that are initially sustainable and have been manufactured using less toxic chemicals and more recycled items. They are a great investment if you invest upfront. They can also make maintaining your home appliances even more energy-efficient.

Ways to maintain your appliances include:

  • Keep your dishwasher clean
  • Clean refrigerator coils and gaskets
  • Do not overload your washer or dryer
  • Clean stove spills

Maintaining your home appliances can save you thousands a year in costs of repair and buying new appliances.

4) Get A Good Water Filter

Another one of the many ways to go green is by getting a good water filter.

A good water filter can make a huge impact on your pockets and the environment. You can save money when you buy less bottled water and start drinking your tap water instead.

You can either buy or create your own water filter which can help you be more environmentally friendly. A good water filter can help get rid of any impurities so that you can enjoy your tap water without problems. You get to enjoy eco-friendly water all while saving hundreds from not buying bottled water.

5) Buy Second-Hand Goods

The role of recycling is what makes buying second-hand goods so efficient. Buying second-hand goods are yet another one of the many ways to go green. It is more eco-friendly to invest in second-hand clothes than just buying brand new everything. Not to mention it is less expensive to just go thrift shopping for goods that are still in pretty good condition.

6) Reduce Your Commute to Go Green

A great way to go green that can help you save money is by reducing your commute.

Driving a car emits fumes into the environment that are unsafe to breathe, which contributes to global warming. It can be very costly if you have to make payments on the vehicle every month and even more costly if it breaks down.

In order to reduce your commute, you can try:

  • Walking
  • Biking
  • Public transit

Choosing to walk or ride a bike can also be a healthy alternative to driving a car, so that’s another bonus. If you want, you can also try ride-sharing. It’s a cheaper alternative to driving but you can also choose to ride in eco-friendly vehicles. You spend less money on your own vehicle, save yourself time, and help the environment.

7) Save On Laundry for Greener Living

There are many ways to save on laundry that are eco-friendly.

You can save money by:

  • wearing clothes more than once
  • use towels multiple times
  • use cold water for all washes
  • try air-drying your clothes.

In order to commit to doing your laundry that helps the environment, you can also buy natural laundry detergent. You can also choose to get rid of extra clothes to cut down on the amount of laundry you have to do. Fewer clothes mean less water used and more energy saved.
