How to Watch the 2021 Tokyo Olympics Without Cable

Don’t have cable or a streaming service that offers live Olympic coverage? Don’t worry, you’re not SOL on this one.

The answer is simple:

Watch the 2021 Tokyo Olympics for free on Peacock – either sign up on your laptop or download the app on your phone.

Just sign in with your email address and a new password. That’s it! No credit card needed!

Peacock - watch the 2021 Olympics for free

According to their main page, you can literally watch live coverage every morning and stream for free all day. The only thing you can’t watch for free is Men’s Basketball. For that, you’ll need to upgrade (which I’m pretty sure costs you a whopping $10 for the month! Still totally worth it!).

How to Watch the 2021 Tokyo Olympics Once You Sign Into Peacock

Once you create a login and password and you sign into your account, you’ll first need to choose an account image that represents you (if you’re bland and boring like me, you’ll choose the blue peacock – totally original! 😉 ).

Then, you can watch the Olympics via one of two different avenues:

  1. Click “Channels” at the lower right of your phone screen. Then choose the channel you’d like to watch live – there are a few different Olympic channels.
  2. In the upper right, click “Olympics”. Here you can either watch live events or see recaps of past events.

So far, I’ve been watching “Must-See Olympic Moments” and the latest 2021 Olympic trials.

How to Stream the 2021 Olympics For Free On Your TV

Want to stream and cast the Olympics onto your TV?

We have Chromecast (a simple device – a one time cost of $30 – that you can plug into your TV) which allows us to cast shows from our tablet or phone onto the TV.

If you don’t have Chromecast, you can also use the following options to cast the Olympics on your TV from Peacock:

  • your Vizio, Samsung, or LG smart TV
  • Android TV
  • Roku
  • Fire TV
  • Xbox One
  • Playstation 4

With the above options, you can take the Olympic action from your phone onto your television! How awesome is that??!!

Money Save Money

My name is Derek, and I have my Bachelors Degree in Finance from Grand Valley State University. After graduation, I was not able to find a job that fully utilized my degree, but I still had a passion for Finance! So, I decided to focus my passion in the stock market. I studied Cash Flows, Balance Sheets, and Income Statements, put some money into the market and saw a good return on my investment. As satisfying as this was, I still felt that something was missing. I have a passion for Finance, but I also have a passion for people. If you have a willingness to learn, I will continue to teach.

  1. Thanks for the post! The NBC Olympics website makes it sound like Peacock will only show highlights and a few replays, so I had written it off for live events. “If you can’t watch every event live on NBC but want to see the top moments, sign up for a Peacock account (it’s free!). You’ll have access our always-on Tokyo NOW Channel starting July 22, where you can tune in anytime to catch the latest updates and highlights… ” Maybe it’s just the way I interpreted it. 🙂
But Peacock’s site says it’s all viewable, so I’m looking forward to it!

    • Yeah, I’m kind of ticked! They made it sound like live events! But, we don’t really watch news and we don’t have TV of any kind, so I think if we watch something 3 hours after it happens, it will still be totally fine. 🙂

      • Turns out it’s only certain live events on Peacock, and Men’s prelim swimming, which was on NBC this morning, was not on Peacock. Since there’s a local swimmer in that event that we were hoping to watch, we were a bit disappointed. Just signed up for a free trial of Fubo to try to catch the next live event on NBC… :-/

        • The free trial should work. Sorry that this freebie didn’t work out! False advertising!!! But, Peacock is still pretty amazing, especially for the cost, not going to lie.
